I know what a great privilege it is
For one such as thee to incline thine ear to me
To look upon one without much honor
Not upon what i am but what you would have me to be
You lead and guide with your mercy
And with such perfect grace you deem to look upon my face
I who am the least of the weakest clan
And the very air that I breathe is your exhaled grace
Father in heaven how i love you
You have heard my pleas whilst down upon my knees
I live because of your good pleasure
And have discovered a love that’s deeper than the waters of the seas

There is the presence of God to be found in glorious worship, enthusiastic and energetic, the kind of worship that lifts your spirit. It can lift up the head and invigorate the heart and fill you full of joy and you leave strengthened. This is good worship. Yet there is another kind of presence of God in worship, the kind of presence that there seems to be a famine of throughout the land. The first kind of presence we spoke of lifts your heart, the second kind of presence invades every part of who you are. It falls from heaven like a heavy dew, heads are lowered and hands are raised. All becomes quiet, one barely breathes as the Spirit of God slowly descends down through our heads into our hearts and down to the very soles of our feet, and the ground upon which we stand becomes Holy ground. The first kind of presence uplifts us, the second changes us fundamentally. As living waters pour into us then it rises up like a great river that is so full that it overflows its banks. The banks themselves begin to crumble and fall into this river of pure life as it swells up and floods every part of who we are. The landscape is being changed by this flood, the very topography of our lives is being flattened by its powers and everything that is not securely rooted to its foundations is simply swept away. Changed forever. And when the flood recedes we are left with a glorious afterglow. As the deer pants for the waterbrooks, I wonder, do our hearts pant after this kind of encounter.
The Lord Himself does not need professional worship teams. He does not need people to encourage us to stand up, jump up and down and raise our hands. In the Welsh revival two young women singing either acapella or simply backed by a piano typically sang “Here is love, vast as the ocean.” And there was love, in the very midst of them, vast as the ocean, flooding the hearts and minds of all who attended. Brothers and sisters, in all our modernity, what have we lost? In the program of churches and the professional class of worshiper leaders and pastors we have lost the simplicity of it all. And in the losing of it we now have to entertain the people. Spirit led worship is exactly that, it is Spirit led. In work we have a routine. In life we have a routine. Prisoners in prison have a routine. Oftentimes we are slaves to the routine, it is what gets us through life. Yet, there is nothing routine about the Holy Spirit of the Living God. He is dynamic and you can never know what way the wind will blow next. Have we sold our souls for a routine? Routine in the home, routine at work, routine at church. Routine people do not change the world. Routine people do not do wage war on the battle-fields of life. The Spirit of God is dynamic and those filled with His “dynamis,” change the environment around them because the environment inside them has been filled to capacity and is overflowing its banks. Lord fill us again to overflowing with the kind of presence that invades every part of who we are.

“Speaking at the Chinese Missions Convention in Ontario, Canada, on Wednesday, Chan lamented the fact that churches do not understand the power that God has given each believer, and instead keep them in “cages” where the only way they can survive is if someone feeds them. These cages include the children’s ministry cage, youth ministry cage, singles cage, and married couples cage, he noted. “Let’s just put everyone in their cages and let’s just feed them every week and our whole job is to just keep feeding you, feeding you, and feeding you when the reality is you were made for something more,” Chan emphasized.”
Francis Chan has identified the very essence and elemental weakness of what we call our church system. Perhaps it is why he felt the need to leave his own well established church that had thousands in the pews every week and was successful in every measurable way, at least by the way our system of church is measured. Yet surely he was dying spiritually while most pastors are striving for what he had and what he has now given up? It is like the illusion of wealth and the American dream. No matter how many voices speak out about the fact that money does not bring you happiness and contentment, still the vast majority seek it out. Suicides, for the most part, are undertaken by the wealthy not the poor. The poor has the illusion to work towards yet the rich man now knows how empty his life was and still is, for no amount of money can fill a whole in your spirit. And so pastors all over the world strive to have what Chan had, not understanding the fundamental truth of their calling. Their calling is not to contain the Body of Christ in cages as alluded to by Chan, but their calling is to enable them and to empower them and edify them so as they may operate to the fullness in their own gifting.
Now how can we open those cages and let the Christian loose? We have to allow the gifts of the Spirit to operate in our midst just as they did in 1st Cor 14. Read that chapter and ask yourself why your church does not operate in such a way? What has changed? Does not the Word of God remain unchanged in an ever-changing world? Will not all the world pass away and the heavens above but still the Word of God shall remain. Did not Jesus Himself say that the Word is never broken? If it is never broken then why do we not worship as they did in 1 Cor 14? Why is there not two or three tongues? Why is there not two or three songs and spiritual songs? Why no interpretation of those tongues? Why is there not two or three prophecies or words of exhortation? You see saints, this is the cage that we have put most of the Royal priests in. You can clean the toilets and volunteer to look after the children but God forbid that He should speak through you from the front or, horror of horrors, from the platform.
Will God be contained? Will He continue forever to allow His Word to be chained and caged by the power structures of men? The power structures of men take solace in the fact that their system has been in place for centuries. We Protestants scoff at Catholic tradition and say how dare they put as much emphasis on tradition as they do on Scripture? They cry “Sola Scriptura,” while all the while worshiping their own traditions as much as any Catholic ever did. How do we remove the chains from a people who cannot see their chains? How can we speak of true freedom while most of our brothers and sisters are caged and fed and have grown to like it that way? How can we restore the preeminence of Jesus in our gatherings?
Jesus wept over Jerusalem because He could see that in just a few short decades everything they knew, all of their traditions and means of worship would be torn down, stone by stone and nothing would be left. Nothing but Jesus. We will never know how much Jesus means to us until Jesus is all that we have, then we will know. The times are at hand brothers and sisters when God will allow every stone to be torn down of the structures we call the Church. The Church will remain for not even the gates of Hell can destroy us, but our system of worship shall be swept away by the storms of persecution. A tsunami of enormous proportions is headed towards us. When the waters begin to recede, know that destruction is at the door. This persecution will not destroy us, it shall refine us. And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness (Mal 3:3)

I have grown to dislike this season more with every passing year. When I was a child my poor mother would go into debt every year, not on extravagant presents but just so her children could have something. Maybe that is one of the reasons I dont have a lot of time for it. Maybe it is because every year there is less and less focus on Jesus. Around my house I am known as the grinch because I dont care much for all the present buying, in fact I tell them, with a smile on my face, that if it was up to me I would ban all present buying, but I a deadly serious, I would. My heart is pained at what this season represents to the world. I will be pleasant enough to everyone, but my heart is not in it at all. If I could just sit with a company of saints and sing Oh Holy Night and consider the day, whatever day it was, that the Lord was born and rejoice in that, that would be better than anything. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, it is simply how I feel.

The victory for the saint comes in the depths of the dungeons. Those who will prevail are those who shall endure and overcome. If we love God more than life then we shall endure until the end and not just endure but cry glory even in the midst of gross darkness. The enemy shall never silence the praises of His people even though he would try to kill every one of us to shut the mouth of Jesus. The enemy killed every child of a certain age in a great slaughter and laments were heard all over the land, but, hark the Herald angels sing, glory to the new-born King, above the weeping of grieving mothers the cries of our deliverer was heard. The enemy failed and Christ prevailed and as it was then so it ever shall be until that day dawns and the morning star rises in your heart.

Hundreds of years ago, brave men would go down to the sea and embark on voyages from which there was no guarantee of returning. They would encounter monsters of the sea, savage storms that would threaten to tear them apart, windless days, ever diminishing supplies and in those days worrying about falling off the end of the world. Yet, they embarked and because they embarked we discovered brand new worlds. Few were the men who would dare to do such things and few are the men that change the world. Yet saints, genuine saints who embark upon the journey of faith, who throw caution to the wind and go all in, these saints change the world as we know it. They lead the way for others to follow. I believe there is an especially large mansion for those saints on earth who endure great hardships. The foundation that they are currently hewing out of solid rock will prove to be the foundation for their eternal home to come.

If you were to watch my dog Jack go for a ball you would be pretty impressed. I have a little ball throwing gizmo that helps me launch it much further than I could ever possibly thrown it. While it’s still behind my back, half way through the swing, Jack has already figured out the trajectory of the ball and is off and running without ever looking back. The ball will bounce once in front of him and while never missing a beat he leaps up and just at the very apex of the bounce trajectory he snatches it out of mid-air and lands perfectly, it is poetry in motion. Now he will do this action 100% of the time and 99% of the time he gets the ball. Yet, even when he misses it is still poetry in motion because every single time he is 100% committed, he will catch it spectacularly or he will miss it spectacularly.
There is something about the way Jack goes for this ball that speaks to me. His passion, his commitment, his expectations are all really impressive. The most impressive thing about Jack is that it does not matter that the last time he went for it he missed, he just goes for it every single time. God is always looking for a passionate people. Yes you might miss the ball sometimes but do you have the passion, the commitment and the expectations when you hear God speak? Are you off and running in the direction that God sends you knowing that there is going to be a ball dropping right in front of you? The Scriptures tell us that without faith (trust) it is impossible to please God. When He sends you off in a certain direction do you go for it, do you believe that God is in it and He knows what He is doing? Or are you always looking back and second guessing him? It is not the catching of the ball that God loves, it is the passionate pursuit of Him and His ways. You are gonna drop the ball, you’re gonna miss the mark, but that is just you, that is just natural. What is supernatural is to trust in God with all of your heart and keep pursuing Him over and over again. God loves diligence. He is not a rewarder of the guy with the biggest ministry, He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. This is what gets Gods attention.

Trials and tribulations will ultimately bring out the best in genuine Christians and the worse in the religious man. The harder the circumstances get for the genuine Christian, the more he is forced to his knees and driven deeper into the heart of the Father. He is humbled and contrite as he understands how weak he is and how much flesh he still has.
Ultimately the results of this is more love, more peace, more forgiveness and more understanding. The harder the circumstances become for the religious man, the more bitter he becomes. He has no joy or peace. He will not forgive his enemies and his hatred for those he perceives to have caused his sufferings increases dramatically. So, the trial, the deep valley, is death to one and life to another. The flesh dies and the spirit arises.

As I was walking recently, the Holy Spirit spoke some words to me. ” There is nothing more important than the condition of your heart.” It lingered with me for weeks as I pondered those few words. All of my Christian life I have periods where I retreat into myself and kinda shut down, withdraw from the maddening crowd and simply go along on auto pilot.
In Kansas we can go months without rain. The ground gets baked hard in the sweltering heat of summer. If a rain comes it typically does not penetrate the hard ground, instead there is a flash flood. The ground is wet for a very short period of time and then it is as hard as it ever was.
There are periods when it rains every day in the spring. The ground soaks up the rain and then it rains again and again until it is saturated. When the ground is saturated it takes only a slight rain to cause flooding. The creeks and the rivers are swollen and the landscape is in danger of being changed by raging waters.
If my heart is good, if the waters that flow from heaven flow through me, if my heart remains supple and soaked with the dew that falls from heaven, then it takes very little for the glories of heaven to flood forth from me, living waters that refreshes my soul and others. If my heart is hard, it takes a lot of water just to soften me up. Oh that I would learn to remain close to the source of life itself that I might be useful in season and out of season, that I would be a source of life to others.

Despite walking through the various valleys of life, including the shadow of death, He leads us besides still waters and He compels us to lie down in rich pastures, being fed and living life where others starve and die. While many cry out to God to take their cup from them, gethsemane shows us the way of righteousness and embracing God’s will and directions in our lives by drinking fully the cup. It is our light that overcomes the darkness . So many people cry out to God to remove the darkness, yet the answer, the solution already exists within us, Christ in us, the hope of glory, the light of the world. Let your light shine today, be that city on the hill for oftentimes we never know that the man or woman standing next to us is being consumed by the darkness.

The freedom to do what is right, towers above the prison and the chains of commandments. One is initiated by love, the other is enforced by the whip. Holiness comes from freedom and freedom comes from love . And this love inspires and draws us and compels us to honor and respect and obey our Father in heaven because His love is the very air that we breathe and the air before the throne is rarified air and if we cannot breathe this air then we die.

When God is silent.
There are many reasons why God is silent, but I am going to touch on something he recently put on my heart. Sometimes God may be silent simply because he has already spoken to you! If you think about it, how can you accuse God of being silent when he has left you sixty-six letters, thousands of verses? There is no need for him to repeat himself. Aren’t you glad that the book of Genesis doesn’t say, “God said, ‘Let there be light. Let there be light’”?
If you and I had been there on that first day when God said, “Let there be light,” we would have been dancing and rejoicing from 6 o’clock in the morning until about 6 o’clock in the evening.
But suddenly, when it starts to get dark, we begin to panic. “Oh, no, I knew it wouldn’t last! I knew the light was going to go away. Maybe we’ve done something wrong. Maybe we weren’t reading the Word enough.”
The light fades away, and we spend the next twelve hours in sorrow — until the light reappears, and we realize that when God said, “Let there be light,” he didn’t mean that there wouldn’t be night; that there wouldn’t be seasons when we cannot see. He didn’t mean that we would always be able to understand everything that is going on in the heavenly realm. However, the light always reappears, and we see that what God spoke continues to be fulfilled without his having to speak again.
One reason God may be silent is because there is an appointed time for his Word to be fulfilled. One example of this in the Bible is Joseph, who was given the incredible promise that he was going to reign one day. He was going to be a man through whom great provision would be unlocked. However, there was an appointed time for the fulfillment of the promise and he had to follow God’s plan. (Carter Conlon)

Have you ever watched a trial on TV? It can be a fascinating process. One of the more fascinating aspects of a trial can be the expert witnesses. A lot of weight can rest upon these people. Oftentimes they are professional expert witnesses, meaning, their full-time job is testifying at trials. Now, you watch the expert witness for the prosecution and you think he makes excellent points and, after all, he is an expert and you assume the defendant to be guilty based on what you just heard. Then, when the prosecution rests, the defense brings on their expert witness and he refutes what the other expert says and now you think the defendant is not guilty. Two experts, two opposite opinions, results? Confusion. They both cannot be right. Ever had a bad diagnosis from a specialist? You go through all the trauma of that and someone suggests a second opinion. You get that and the second specialist tells you something very different. You might even get a third opinion and you hear something different again. I have spoken to people who have experienced that and the result tends to be fear. They now know that they cannot definitively rely upon the so-called experts and will have to make a decision themselves which could have deadly consequences, or not.
This, to me, is what so-called theologians bring to the Body of Christ. Fear, confusion, sometimes clarity but more often than nought they bring division. In the first example of the expert witnesses with contradicting views, in the end, the jury must decide for themselves where the truth lies. In the second example of the medical experts, in the end, the patient must decide the course of action. With the Scriptures, in the end we must decide what the truth is.Never let anyone tell you that you are not qualified to do that. If we look at the state of the Church and the multiples divisions and hatreds down through the centuries we see highly qualified men have not, in the end, been a force for good or for unity, but rather a force for division. We should never relinquish our responsibility to men. Yet, unlike the jurors or the patient, we are not alone when it comes to understanding the Scriptures. Yes we have teachers and teachers are helpful but they are fallible and being fallible and human are they are prone to error and deception. Ultimately we must come to our conclusions on the Word of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. We will not stand with other men and give account before God, we will stand alone and give our accounts. We will not point an accusing finger at Calvin or Arminius. Nor will we blame Whitfield of Wesley for how we lived our lives. If indeed the Holy Spirit lies in us, then we have access to the teacher of teachers. “But Frank, if we follow that advice then disorder and chaos will follow.” Have you looked at the state of Christendom now and down through the centuries? Is it possible that we have abdicated our responsibilities to be good stewards of the Word, to be Bereans who search the Word diligently.
In our day, in the midst of the great falling away, it is more important than ever than we know the Word of God and what it teaches us. With denomination after denomination falling into gross error ( and each will have their own set of experts telling you why gross sin is no longer sin) it is vital that we rely upon the Holy Spirit for truth. Many denominations now tell us today that homosexuality is merely an expression of two people’s love for one another. Many denominations are now moving into the teaching that there are many paths to heaven. Will you rely upon their expert witnesses? Will you abdicate your own responsibility to know the truth? Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.(Joh 8:31-32) To be a disciple of Jesus you must continue in His Word and if you do that you ( that is you saint) will know the truth and the truth shall make you free. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
(1Jn 2:27) This anointing is the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit teaches His children, we must ask and seek Him in all these things.
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.(Heb 8:10-11)

Consider the spiritual life of the Christian. Unless you are engaged in one paradox after another you must reconsider your walk with God. Religion is the opiate of those who in their own minds have arrived yet true Christianity is in a constant state of flux. And by state of flux I do not mean what that phrase typically means in the negative which is uncertainty. In the Lord we are sure but we always beware when we stand lest we fall. This is not a state of anxiety but rather one of diligence. We know from the Scriptures that the Lord is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him which leads us to our first paradox. Seeking that which we have found. In John 15 Jesus says that “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.” This word abide is a continuous action verb meaning to continue to abide. In other words it is not a one time thing it is a state of being.
I want you to consider the following paradoxes and see how they apply to your life.
1. We are dead but always dying.
2. We have entered but are always entering.
3. We have found but are always seeking.
4. We have encountered but are always seeking to encounter.
5. Our old man died but we are always putting him to death.
6. We were saved but are always working out our salvation.
7. We have arrived but we journey on towards our destination.
8. We are with Him but we journey on towards Him.
9. We are full but we are hungry.
10.We are clothed in white garments but are naked.
11.The Kingdom has come but the Kingdom is coming.
12.We are victorious but we surrender.
These are just a few examples of the paradoxical life in Christ. If you are genuinely saved then all of these paradoxes brings life itself. It is constantly moving and is alive with abundant life and draws you ever closer. If you are merely religious and have had no actual encounter with the living God and try to live the paradoxical life in Christ it will lead you to dissatisfaction and anxiety and away from God. Consider this, for the children of Israel the passage through the red sea was liberation and a way of escape. For the Egyptians it was death.

In the end, everything of this world is just that, of this world. Only the authentic will do whether that is freedom or justice or beauty or peace. Of course God is these things and only in Him can we have these things, all else is counterfeit, some better than others, but in the end mere copies of the original. The Mona Lisa is a tremendous copy of the woman who sat for the painting. The most incredible landscape painting is still only a painting, the real star is the landscape itself. And so peace in the world, even the greatest peace will only ever be fleeting because it is not the original. Justice in the world is tainted by our very humanity and therefore by necessity falls woefully short of the original, no matter how good it looks or begins. Everything about humanity, outside of God, is counterfeit and dying. It is only the eternal that is pure, whether that is good or evil. We must commit ourselves to the eternal and find true meaning there. In the end, there can only be that which is good or that which is evil. Everything else is an allusion, a counterfeit and fleeting.

Whether it is NFL protests, or racism or police brutality, we hear a lot spoken about freedom in our age. Every day we here that we are free to protest, we are free to resist, free to fight back free to express whatever that is on our mind. The following article is solely for Christians whether black or white. It is not for the secular mind which could not possibly even begin to understand what true freedom in Christ means.
As a man born in Scotland, there is a mythological notion about what it means to fight for freedom. It is wrapped up in the psyche of the people and Scotland, in many ways, has become synonymous with freedom, thanks mostly to Hollywood and history. Indeed the declaration of Arbroath was the forerunner, by centuries, to the declaration of Independence. This notion of rising up and throwing off our oppressors is a very glamorous notion. Rebellion and rejection of authority is fundamental to the very essence of what it means to be American and really what it means to be human thanks to the garden of Eden. Shortly after coming to Jesus I had a vision. It was a powerful vision that took my breath away and changed forever my notions of freedom. Here it is……………
“I felt the rush of air rising beneath me, lifting me in the updrafts of His presence up and through the clouds. Suddenly a mountain top appeared, rising majestically through a sea of gray. The mountain trembled and the thunder clapped and I heard Jesus say, ” go.” I flapped my arms effortlessly and soon the mountain was far behind as I flew over rivers and valley’s and great forests of pine. Then I came across a great assembly of men gathered together on a bleak and desolate Scottish moor as the rain began to fall and the wind howled in anguished anticipation. Words of freedom echoed up to the sky above from the ground below. And Jesus said to me “will a man die for freedom? How many men have spilled their blood and hastened their souls to eternal damnation for that which is not even a shadow. These men fought and died not knowing that it is not in the winning or the losing, neither can that which they seek be attained by knife or sword.” I flapped my arms once more and suddenly the mists of time rolled back, back, unto the dawning of a different age. Below me, another assembly of men, angry men. These men were not fighting for freedom, they were seeking to destroy it. They shouted,”crucify Him, crucify Him,” and freedom hung in the balance. And all of hell’s fury cheered as the sky grew dark and the lightning flashed and the earth stood still in utter dismay. Would the sun ever rise in the sky again, or had darkness won the day? Then after three days and three nights, from a sea of darkness and gloom, rose majestically, a pure white standard that shattered the darkness forever. Now the white flag signifies surrender, when we surrender our life’s to Jesus, we gain victory from the jaws of defeat and the darkness is destroyed forever.“
Jesus shattered my notions of freedom by this vision and word. What a tragedy that men and nations could fight for political freedom, could throw off the shackles of slavery and then die knowing nothing of true freedom. This freedom was given to us, not by men, for what is given by men can be taken by men, no, this freedom that was given to us by God Himself on the bloody battle-field of Calvary of which no man nor power that exists can take from us. Would it not be better to live as a slave in this world but be a free man in the world that was and is and is to come? What a tragedy to throw off the shackles of human slavery and yet die a slave to sin and eternal damnation. Temporal political freedom means nothing in the Kingdom of God. The only freedom that truly matters is the freedom that we have in Christ.
I am wearied of any identity that exists outside of our identity in Christ. Identifying and highlighting our so-called differences runs counter to the Scriptures. If we are in Christ then we are one. Christians should not allow the secular world to divide that which the Lord has united. It is the work of Satan himself in the guise of clever and devious politicians to divide and conquer. I see no black man, I see no white man, I see no brown man, I see no yellow man.I see Christ in my brothers and sisters and in that there is true freedom. Freedom from hatred, freedom from bitterness, freedom from anger, freedom from the desire for revenge. The Body of Christ should be the shining city on the hill. Do you hate or dislike another man because he is white? Do you hate or dislike another man because he is black? Then you are a slave and you know nothing of the freedom of which I speak. You will gravitate towards secular men and away from Jesus as the sting of slavery begins to bite deeper and deeper. Would you be free today? Lay down your rights. Would you be free today? Lay down your long-held grievances for you cannot serve two masters. The true master told an enslaved people that when their earthly masters compelled them to walk one mile, they were to walk two miles. Anything outside of this is to worship Barabbas and reject Jesus. The spirits of the age, like the sirens of old, are luring your ship onto the rocks. The lighthouse that shines in the darkness warns us to flee from such spirits and to put Satan behind us.

My dear sister Fiona asked if she could post this piece and direct folks to her website. I am happy to post this. God bless you sister………………bro Frank
Frank is kindly allowing me to share with you a blog the Lord has had me doing for the past few months. The blog is based upon William Gurnall’s book, “The Christian in Complete Armour”.
The Lord led me to Mr. Gurnall’s book, and laid it on my heart to do a blog that follows the teachings found in Mr. Gurnall’s book. You can find the first chapter of my blog here:
http://gleaningsfromgurnall.blogspot.com/…/06/chapter-one.h….
I strongly recommend that you read the chapters in order as they do build upon one another.
For background on the book itself, please go to my other blog: http://growingasadiscipleofchrist-fionab.blogspot.com/…/a-m….
Thank you, Frank, for allowing me to share this with others. I truly believe that serious-minded believers need to learn how to correctly utilize their armor so that they are able to defend themselves when necessary, and properly engage the enemy when asked to do so by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

There is so much noise in the average persons life, noise and activity and business. Yet, at the beating heart of who we are, is Jesus, the lover of our souls. I dearly wish that a great hush would fall over the church. That all the noise would simply be replaced by a holy quietness. The musicians would put down their instruments, the talkers would stop talking and there we would remain until the Lord came upon us. The cry of our hearts should be audible in the congregation. The longing seeking heart should replace the noisy professionals. Just one cry, crying out the name of Jesus with all the longing of a desperate heart would surely bring heaven down to earth. Rain would fall on a dry and dusty land. Our hands would be open to heaven like a chick’s open mouth in anticipation of being fed.
Oh God in heaven come down. We are dying here without your burning love consuming us. We were reborn to be passionate, we were reborn to be lovers, we were reborn with a zeal for you that knows no bounds. We were reborn in your image Lord and we are designed to praise you. Oh that we would have eyes only for you. That we would put aside everything that vies for our attention and love you and come to you and be moved by you and anointed by you and inspired by you and revived by you and refreshed by you and forgiven by you. That we would know the heights of heaven and take some of that glory down into the valley of this world. Lord help me this day to come to you with an open heart so that I may stand with you under an open heaven.

After 27 years in the States I believe I have encountered most sects of Christendom It has been was very depressing to meet people so sold out to a doctrine, so lacking in love for Jesus Himself and so obsessed with portions of Scripture that are so often taken out of context as to make no sense on any level and on these differences they build divisions. Our grand obsession should be Jesus.
No matter where you go, if you find people whose grand obsession is Jesus you wont go far wrong. I want to meet people who love Jesus with all their hearts and souls and minds and body. I want to meet my brothers and sisters from every background, from ever tribe and from every tongue and from every nation. I want to walk along the pilgrim way a while with my fellow sojourners. It refreshes me and revives me and lifts me up.
We shall be known, it is written, by our love for one another. Give me a man or a women who has no agenda to push, no ministry to laud, no kingdom of his or her own to build, but simply loves Jesus with such a burning passion that all they want to do is talk about Him and what He has done for them, how He has changed them and transformed them, how he has filled them and fulfilled them. How He has completed them. How they would certainly die without Him, how they would have lost their minds without Him. How He lifted them from the gutters and made them to fly in heavenly places.
That is the folks I want to meet. New creatures in Christ. Next door down here at the lake the folks have an 18 month old baby and this morning he was in the canoe with them. He was looking around in wonder at the sky and the water and the trees and the hawks flying overhead. With wonder and awe he was taking it all in. It reminded me of my own new birth. The wonder of it all. To look at the world through virginal eyes, to see everything through the light of God. Behold, all things were new in the light of Him in the glory and the simplicity of loving Him. Lord, I want to ever walk in the glory and the simplicity of knowing you and wanting more of you and loving you and loving your creation and loving everything that you love.

I have met so many people who think the church is just fine and everything is the way it has always been and anyone who says anything different is generally castigated. There is a sizable remnant who do see it and I thank God for them. They are, of course, rejected and generally hated because they are in effect, party poopers. They don’t go along with the flow, they disrupt the flow, like a large stone in a flowing river, they cause turbulence and turbulence is uncomfortable and folks don’t want to be uncomfortable. They are for the most part sleeping and they do not want to be woken up. And this remnant are constantly shouting ” wake up you sleepy Christians, wake up, Christ is at the door and the bride must make herself ready to receive her King.”
How many of us can relate to lying in bed, warm, comfortable and cozy. Its winter outside and you are wrapped up in your bed. Then the alarm goes of. Who likes the alarm? It compels us to arise, get up! It is not a pleasant noise, in fact it is designed to be a most unpleasant noise. If it were pleasant we would simply roll over and go back to sleep. The rising remnant of God are His alarm. He is sounding His warning that the time is short. The message is hated. Generations of movements such as the prosperity gospel and the word of faith movement have seeped into Christendom like a contagion. A cancerous contagion that has infected us. The dream of many in the very early church was that they would be counted worthy of martyrdom for the sake of Jesus. How far we have fallen. This notion would almost always be rejected out of hand in our day. False prophets ply their trade in churches across the globe. They come and tell folks that this coming year will be better than the last, God has great things in store for you and breakthroughs will be yours. Now, you can add to that general theme, but it is always some variation of it..
The true prophet of God does not arise to tell folks things they want to hear, the very opposite is true. The prophets of God will always be rejected and despised. God is, in these last day, raising up a generation of prophets. Men and women who can see clearly the true state of things. They see that Jesus is on the horizon and it is a fire that burns in them. They see the approach of gross darkness prior to His return and they sound the alarm. They run from camp to camp and compel people to make sure they have their armor on, because they are going to need it. In most camps they find rejection, because even although it is written, they do not “see,” and they do not see it because they do not want to see it. If you see it, I want to encourage you today. God sees that you see. Yes you are misunderstood but that is part of the price. You find yourself isolated? Another part of the calling. You march to the beat of a different drummer? You speak of things the Lord has “shown,” you and people look at you like you are an alien? Then my friend and brother and sister in Christ you are on the path that the Lord has called you to. It is of course a calling. No one fully volunteers to be unpopular and to be hated and despised and rejected even and especially within their own communities.
The remnant of God are the broken of God. He breaks them by His own hand. Yet He does it in cooperation with His children. It can be traced back to a prayer that might have went something like this. “Oh God please use me, whatever it takes for me to be useful to you, so be it Lord.” Now, when you prayed that prayer you knew you touched heavens throne. What you did not fully realize was just how brutal the breaking would be. What you discovered in the midst of it was that despite the pain of it all God was faithful. You may have had long periods where you cried out “My God my God why has thou forsaken me,” but always in your heart of hearts you knew He was right there and He was your very sanity. You knew that no matter the circumstance or seemingly never-ending series of circumstances that He was shaping you, refining you, cleansing you. You were inevitably heading towards that place Paul found himself in when he said that he had learned to be content in ever situation. He had known what it was to abound in the things of life but he now knew what it was to be abased and still praise God. He knew how to have a full stomach and praise God and he knew how to be hungry and praise God. These are things that he learned, these are the lesson of God. At the start of that chapter in Philippians Paul starts out, and this is the point of the chapter to “stand fast in the Lord.” To the remnant saint who is reading this I say stand fast in the Lord. You are no alone, you are loved and you are called.
