The sign gifts have fallen into disuse.

Posted by appolus on May 5, 2018

It is well for us to consider here that religious people are prone to select a favorite Bible doctrine or truth and to hold to that one truth at the expense of other basic tenets. We may overemphasize important truths so as to obscure other important truth which may actually disappear as a result. This is what I mean by a truth disappearing-it falls into disuse and therefore is easily forgotten. I would illustrate this.

Suppose there is one key on the piano that is not properly attached and it gives forth no sound when it is struck. The pianist is sure to be wincing when he strikes that key and nothing happens. If you would photograph the keyboard, that key would be in its proper place in the picture, but it will not produce any sound no matter how hard you touch it. That is an illustration of what I mean by a basic doctrine of the Christian faith that has fallen into disuse, so that it is not longer talked about or thought about or preached about. If you go to the book of discipline , the statement of doctrine, you will find it still in its place because it will say that we do firmly hold this truth.

But it no longer plays-it is no longer heard. It has no emphasis and no power because it is slurred over and forgotten. This is how a basic Bible truth may fall into disuse because certain doctrines have been overemphasized to the obscuring of others. Then, finally some prophet of God has to come and reassert the forgotten truths and reemphasize and trumpet them forth. That person be considered a heretic because that segment of Bible truth has been obscured for generations. But in the midst of grumbling, the prophet of God keeps persisting until the church awakes, readopts that truth, so that a sense of life comes as if it were raised from the dead. (A.W.Tozer)

Tozer is here speaking in profound terms. Luther would be an example of this, he did not invent a new doctrine when he announced that we are justified by faith alone and not of works. He rediscovered it and presented it to a church that had long ago forgotten this most fundamental and vital aspect of what it means to be saved. Many centuries before this most basic and fundamental truth was lost in religiosity and liturgy. Century after century Christendom slowly drifted away, each generation losing something from the previous generation until they were totally adrift from the truth. Once they were totally adrift from the truth then more centuries past affirming and confirming their error. Then comes Luther and as he hammered that nail into the door, the whole of Christendom shook. A bloody revolution then ensued as the keepers of the error and the status quo fought with all of their might against this upstart priest of no account who was challenging their religion and their liturgy. I believe a similar revolution would have to take place in order to rediscover the truths of 1 Cor 14 and how we interact in gatherings. The sign gifts and their purpose of edifying the saints and the unsaved and the unlearned have fallen into disuse and have been forgotten.

The Final Chapter-The failed system of the church.

Posted by appolus on November 26, 2016

This is the final chapter in my book “The Fall of Christendom.”

This final chapter of the book will look at the failed and fatally
flawed system of church that we have labored under for centuries. I
know that this is a controversial subject and I have lost friends over
this but I must speak what the Lord has laid upon my heart. It is
quite an audacious thing to say that the very system that most of
Christendom labors under is un-biblical and flawed but there it is,
that is what I believe.

The mere fact that it has existed in some
form or fashion for countless centuries in no way legitimizes it. If
it did, then the Catholic Church would be the most legitimate
church that we have. It seems plain enough that in Scripture,
Christians met in their homes and their very homes became places
of worship, houses of prayer if you like. The outside world saw life
in these people, saw love in these people and God Himself added
to them daily. Think about all the church programs that are
designed to get new members or to somehow stop the “revolving
door” and keep the folks who come and visit. Yet the early
believers had no such programs.

What led people to the truth was the very life in those who
represented it. A burning love and passion for Jesus. They had no
desire to bring folks to their particular house, or tell people that
they must hear their particular teacher or pastor, no their singular
obsession and passion was for the one who radically transformed
their lives and it was now no longer them that lived but Christ
lived in them. Therefore they were not afraid to die for Jesus, in
fact, the early Church counted it as a great honor and thanked God
that they were counted worthy to suffer for Him. This was the life
of Christ burning in their bones, coursing through their veins, it
completely dominated their whole lives, their life was about His
life in them and this drew others to Jesus. God Himself was given
all the honor and the glory for the drawing of others to Himself as
of course it should be. Consider the words of
T.A.Sparks………………

The Lord has not called upon us to form churches. That is not
our business. Would to God men had recognized the fact! A very
different situation would obtain today from what exists, if that
had been recognized. It is the Lord Who expands His Church,
Who governs its growth. What we have to do is to live in the place
of His appointment in the power of His resurrection. If, in the
midst of others, the Lord can get but two of His children, in
whom His Life is full and free, to live on the basis of that Life,
and not to seek to gather others to themselves or to get them to
congregate together on the basis of their acceptance of certain
truths or teaching, but simply to witness to what Christ means
and is to them, then He has an open way…. Read the rest of this entry »

A country under judgement

Posted by appolus on October 14, 2016

This election proves that this country is under judgement. Terrible choice presented to the people but if you look closely, both these candidates with all their faults, are pretty representative of the population as a whole. People typically get the leaders they deserve. As for the saints, we must not be caught up in fray. Now, I don’t believe that means we do not speak the truth in love with boldness, we must speak the truth in love with boldness, it is our calling, we are a light in the darkness. We are the salt of the earth, it is through us that goodness and light prevail. Even as they turn on us, and they will with boldness, very soon, we must still be that light, that salt, that boldness and fearlessness for the cause of Christ. It is indeed by the Blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony and they loved not their lives unto death that they overcome.

Now, I have written for years about hypocrisy. It is something that Jesus roundly condemned. The Pharisees were the only people who really caught it from Jesus, He did not hold back in his criticism of them. He completely ignores the Romans, not a single harsh word about them, but slams the Pharisees whom he refers to as hypocrites and white washed tombstones, meaning they looked good on the outside but He knew exactly what they were like on the inside.

The Romans were evil brutish people who for entertainment would roast people and crucify them and feed them to animals and do other things that were so horrendous you could not write about them. But they were what they were, they did not pretend to be anything other than what they were. The Pharisees on the other hand were ” actors,” which is the Greek word for hypocrite. What they said in public was not what they said or did behind closed doors. And so, I have always reserved my criticism for hypocrisy.

I lost quite a few friends for severely criticising George Bush, the golden boy of the Evangelicals. Yet, his actions spoke louder than any words. Now this election cycle my focus has been on the actor, the one who says one thing publicly but in private is a completely different person. So let me say this loud and clear, Hilary Clinton is a clear and present danger to born again Christians. Not religious people who call themselves Christians, but actual Christians.

She and her supporters will come after anyone whom she considers to be deplorable. Now, one of her tests for being deplorable is how someone views homosexuality. If you view it to be a sin, then , in her and her supporters eyes you are a homophobic and deplorable and irredeemable. Now, the meaning of that word is ” beyond all hope.” I want Christians to know that the stage is being set for persecution. Within eight years of a Hilary administration, it will be illegal to speak to the issue I just mentioned in public. It will be a litmus test for every pastor and church in the land. Now, the answer to that is not Donald Trump, it is Jesus Christ.

There are no answers for the saints in Washington DC. Persecution is coming and saints, it will be your friends and family that will be doing the persecution. Yet this is exactly how the Scriptures says it would happen in the great falling away. So, our hope is in Jesus and we shall stand strong in Him and even if the whole world turns against us we shall not be moved. Be encouraged saints, greater is the Spirit within you, than the spirit that is in the world.

The post election world for Christians.

Posted by appolus on August 2, 2016

What is around the corner for the Body of Christ? I believe that within the next ten years we will be living in a society that will not accept the fundamental teachings of the Bible. How will this play out? We are heading for a time very soon where born again Christians will not be allowed to teach in public schools first, then in any schools. We will be banned from colleges and universities. We will not be allowed on the police force or the armed forces. There will be no government job open to any genuine saint. Media will rid themselves of anyone holding to views that run counter to the popular culture. Homosexuality and your views towards it will be a litmus test in every sphere of life, and not just public life. You will be deemed as unfit parents if you teach the biblical truth that homosexuality is a sin. For homosexuality will move fully into the category of civil rights. No pastor will be able to refuse to marry two men or two women, and if he does, he will lose any official capacity. Christian businesses will be boycotted at the behest of the state and then banned outright.

Now the strange thing is, outside of irony, that none of this will have anything to do with homosexuality in and of itself. No, this has to do with the truth. It’s always been about the truth. In every century and in the last two millennium its been about the truth. After the litmus test of homosexuality will come an assault on the great pillar of truth itself. Jesus says ” I am the way, the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father but by me.” (John 14:6) This, even more so that people’s views on sexuality, will be the rod that will be used to strike the backs of every genuine saint. You see, the world will demand that all those who believe that there is only one way to heaven and that all other paths lead to hell, be “put away.” And so it will all come down to truth and our love and commitment to it. The thing about truth is, no matter what the subject, whether it was as in previous centuries infant baptism or transubstantiation, its adherents will not yield. Not because they are particularly invested in one subject or the other but they are sold out to all of it and all that it encompasses even to the point of death. And why? Because the genuine saint has fallen in love with Truth. Jesus is the way and in that way we must walk. Jesus is truth and upon His revealed truth we must stand. Jesus is life, and only by walking in Him and standing upon Him can we have that life.

So get ready saints. It will be difficult but is there anything too difficult for God? We will have to persevere and overcome but remember all the promises of the Lord are made to those who overcome and endure till the end. For a long time in the West we saints have had little resistance from the authorities. It will not be so anymore. The Son of man is coming back in all of His glory and the enemy of our soul knows it well. The Lord has prepared a place for us and we must take hold of that place. For those who stand upon the truth  have a high tower in the Lord. For those who do not yield to the world but trust the Lord in all their ways, they will have a peace which surpasses all understanding. There are no surprises to God, He knows what is coming against His children and He has equipped us for such a time as this. Hold all things loosely but never let Him go. Esteem not the praises of men and do trust in them, but look to Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith. He and He alone is able to fulfill and complete the work that He has begun in you and He will be faithful to do just that. That part is His work, our part is to trust and obey and we will see that there is no other way.

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2Th 2:10-12)

The times in which we live.

Posted by appolus on July 7, 2016

And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? (Luk 18:7-8)

True faith rests upon the character of God and asks no further proof than the moral perfections of the One who cannot lie. It is enough that God said it, and if that statement should contradict every one of the five senses and all the conclusions of logic as well, still the believer continues to believe. ” Let God be true and every man a liar.”(Rom 3:4), is the language of true faith. Heaven approves such faith because it rises above mere proofs and rests in the bosom of God.(A.W.Tozer)

We live in a day of science and knowledge. Technology has propelled man to dizzying heights. And right along with that has risen in the hearts of man unbelief. This is the age of self-righteousness. Now of course there has always been self-righteousness but this age uniquely belongs to it. Pride and haughtiness haunt every corner of the land. All around the world people of faith are hated like never before. And we are simply at the beginning of this age, this new order, these birth pangs. Now more than ever we must simply rest upon the character of the God that we know. No matter what is happening outside of our doors, no matter that the whole world is in moral free fall, we must stand upon the Word of God and let God be true. We must be at rest in the heart of God and have it settled in our minds that we shall be hated by all the world.

When the Lord comes back for His own will He find faith on the earth? Yes He will find a remnant of people whose faith has been tried in the crucible of afflictions. He will find a people purified by the fires of persecutions. He will find a people tried and tested in every aspect of who they are but who stand because they know who He is. In the end it will simply come down to believing God and His Word. So wherever you are brothers and sisters, stand fast in what you know to be true. Stand fast in the Word. Stand fast in the Lord, stand fast and let faith do its work. No matter what it costs you stand fast today. Stand fast and allow the Lord to take care of your tomorrows. Take no thought of it, for the Lord goes before us and the future belongs to Him. Know that as the days grow darker , for those of us who stand fast the light of Christ in us shall grow brighter. His Spirit will rise up in us and overflow. In the midst of the great spiritual drought we shall overflow our banks. In the midst of spiritual famine we shall sit down at a table prepared for us by the Lord Himself in the presence of our enemies. They will gnash their teeth and be stabbed in the heart as they see us eat and drink of the Lord freely. Some will sit down and join us as they witness this, most will rise up in anger with murder on their hearts.

Yet, no matter. They may take our way of life. They may take our positions in society. They may remove us from their institutions. They may ridicule us and condemn us with the unjust. They may turn our children against us. They may have their day, yet there is an eternity that stretches out before man. The man who lives for the day and is caught up in the current of the culture and is swept away by the tide of moral depravity and departure from truth is the man who will find that he has gained the world but has lost his soul. The saints who stand fast and willingly suffer loss in this world will find that all that they have lost is but nothing for they are found in Him and not only for a day or an age but for all eternity.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. (Heb 12:2-3)

Britain leaves EU-New World order

Posted by appolus on June 24, 2016

The world was shaken today. The vote in Britain to leave Europe is highly significant and I believe has prophetic consequences. Put your seat-belt on folks. There is a stirring in the world and an air of rebellion against all things established. It is a rejection of the old order. There is a new world order coming. Just another stepping stone in a rapidly evolving or devolving world that is anti-christian at heart and deeply discontented with all things established. Typically when the extreme right is on the march they require a scapegoat as does the extreme left. Either way, there is trouble ahead for a world without statesmen. Into the vacuum that is being created will step the strong man, the deliverer. The world is in desperate need of a strong visionary and that old enemy of our soul has just the man in mind. Tick tock, the prophetic calendar is running down. Stand fast brothers and sisters for we who stand on holy ground are not shaken.

When simple Truth clashes with our common experience.

Posted by appolus on February 29, 2016

In Galatians we see an encounter between Paul and Peter at Antioch. It has to be remembered that the initial Church was all Jewish. And even at that time the Jewish teachings and traditions were well over a thousand years old. Imagine for a moment, a thousand years of history, teachings and interpretations and ritual. You were special, Gods own called out people and everyone else were Gentiles, apart from God.

In Acts 10 we see that Peter encounters God in a vision on a rooftop. A sheet comes down with every kind of unclean animal that Jewish people were forbidden to eat and God tells Peter to rise and kill and eat. Now, this would be something like Abraham being told to take his son up the hill and burn him to death. How could this be God? This is the mental and emotional anguish that Peter must have wrestled with as he defies God three times, three times brothers and sisters. At that very moment, the servant of Cornelius the Gentile arrives. The answer to Peter’s vision just knocked on his door. How would you like a question to God to be answered so quickly? And we know what happens next, he goes to Cornelius’s house and witnesses the Holy Spirit come down on that household just as it had come down on them at Pentecost.

Now back to the Galatians. We see that Peter and others including Barnabas were taken up with hypocrisy. The revelation had been given by God Himself about the Gentiles yet Peter and the others were still afraid of those who came down from Jerusalem and insisted that the Gentiles must be like them if they were to be part of the Body of Christ. Thank the Lord that Paul, quite apart from any leadership in Jerusalem, had been taught himself by vision and revelation about the nature of the Body of Christ and so he withstood Peter and the leadership of Jerusalem and insisted that they were being hypocrites by insisting that the Gentiles must live like Jews in order to be part of the Body of Christ, they were adding to the Gospel and Paul would have none of it.

Now, before you are too hard on those early believers who were Jewish by birth, I want you to consider how your own common experience may clash with simple truth. If Peter was so bold and conflicted as to say ” not so, Lord,” ( and this is an impossible phrase is it not, how can He be the Lord of our life and we say no to Him) three times then could this not happen to you? Now what is the simple truth that I am talking about that the vast majority of Christendom say ” not so Lord?” Here it is. Read the rest of this entry »

The perfect storm.

Posted by appolus on November 19, 2015

We have all heard the phrase ” a perfect storm.” Perhaps many of us have seen the movie or read the book “The perfect Storm” where different meteorological events collided causing one huge and rare storm of unusual violence and strength and had catostrophic consequences for those unlucky enough to be caught at sea or live by the coast.

Here are some definitions of the phrase ” perfect storm,” ………..

A.a detrimental or calamitous situation or event arising from the powerful combined effect of a unique set of circumstances:

B.a critical or disastrous situation created by a powerful concurrence of factors.

C.a “perfect storm” is an expression that describes an event where a rare combination of circumstances will aggravate a situation drastically. The term is also used to describe an actual phenomenon that happens to occur in such a confluence, resulting in an event of unusual magnitude.

Lets look at some of the words that re-appear in these definitions of a perfect storm. There is combined, combination, concurrence and confluence. So, under normal circumstances any single event, while bad, does not lead to the other set of words used in the definition of a perfect storm which are calamitous, critical, disastrous and unusual magnitude.

Can I suggest to you that the world is facing a perfect storm? Now one could state rightly that there have always been wars and famines and natural disasters. Yet when there is a confluence of events such as we are seeing today, can I suggest that we as Christians get ready for the greatest storm to ever hit mankind in the history of this planet. What are these events that I am speaking of? In the last one hundred years there have been more men, woman and children killed in wars than in all the wars combined since history has been recorded. We saw the unspeakable horrors of Nazi Germany where human being were gassed and shoveled into fires by the millions. We saw even more killed by the horrors of Communism and its phycopathic leader Stalin. Both these regimes were unshamedly Godless. We now see a moral breakdown in society which we have never witnessed in the world before, even all pretense is being thrown of. We have saw starvation on a grand scale with horrific famines. We have witnessed a tsunami which killed 250,000 people, an event never before witnessed in recorded history. We have witnessed massive earthquakes one of which actually moved the whole earth slightly of it axis. In the last hundred years we have seen the birth of the nuclear age with the destruction of two cities in the blink of an eye with just two bombs. Now even that technology is positively primitive in comparison to what we have today.

Now lets combine all of that, and that was only a fraction of events in the last hundred years, with a total vaccuum in leadership around the world today. The statesman cannot be found. All seek after their own. The middle East is in flames and millions upon millions of people are being displaced by crazed bloodthirsty madmen intent on barbarism. We read in the book of Daniel 12:4
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. We are told that the end of times shall be marked with greatly increased travel and knowledge. Can I suggest that we are living in that age where people now travel freely all over the world and that knowledge has absolutely exploded in the last few decades.

The perfect storm has begun brothers and sisters. The bands of rain are already lashing the world and the cultural winds are beginning to blow with hurricane force. Today, with technology, we are able to see monster hurricanes many many days before they hit land. We can see it coming and those in its path head for safe harbor or if you are on land and in the path of the storm, you begin to stock up provisions and board up your house; you may even evacuate to higher ground if the surge is forecast to be of a certain height that would overwhelm you where you dwell.

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. (Mat 25:1-4)

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.(Mat 7:24-27)

The preparation that Jesus is talking about, and He is talking about the last days ,is not about storing food and weapons and so on. Its about your vessel being filled with oil so that when the darkness comes just before the coming of Jesus, you will be able to light up the night as a light to the world. The preparation is about obedience to God and walking in His revelation and commands so that your house, your life, your walk is built upon a solid foundation so that when this perfect storm comes and the rain descends and the cultural winds blow with ferocity and evil floods the world, you shall still stand while those without such a foundation are swept away. Lash yourself to Christ and live, stand fast brothers and sisters, come up to higher ground and live.

And then the end shall come.

Posted by appolus on November 7, 2015

The Apostle Paul, referring to the coming evil day, said, “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13).”

This is what the Lord has burned into my spirit and bones. The phrase ” stand fast,” is what I have been using to end many of the words the Lord has given me lately. I believe our calling in the last days is to simply stand fast and there will be nothing simple about it. When persecution comes everything will be stripped away, and the process has already begun. It wont be about ministries and reputations and theologies, it will be about loving God and loving His Word and being willing to stand upon it, willing to live it and willing to die for it. When the winds of religious and secular persecution come together, it creates a perfect storm for genuine saints. Who will stand when the only hiding place is Christ and Him alone? I believe many will.

The same Spirit that burned in the heart of Stephen, the apostles and the martyrs down through the ages burns in the heart of every genuine saint. What separates us from the saints of the last two thousand years? Nothing! We are one Body. The only thing that differentiates us from them is circumstances and opportunity. It is not because they were special or we are special it’s because of the Spirit of God and the overcoming Christ. The winds of persecution that are now beginning to blow will fan the flames of the refining fires.

But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. (Mal 3:2-3)

The same Spirit that burned in the hearts of the three Hebrew children burns in the hearts of genuine saints. That Spirit gave those children the courage to say that even if they die in the fire prepared for them they would never bow down to the gods of this world. And who did they meet in the very midst of the fire? Jesus. And what did the world, represented by the king acknowledge when they emerged from the fire? “There is no other God that can deliver after this sort.”

The wheat indeed shall be separated from the tares and that by fire. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. (Mat 24:10-14)

God is preparing his witnesses/martyrs so that the world will see and know, and then the end shall come.

Earthquakes, is God shaking the world?

Posted by appolus on March 12, 2011

Many Christians around the world believe that the Lord is coming soon.  Its a major tenet of Christianity to believe that the Lord is coming back and before He does the earth will be ravaged by many things. It is commonly called the beginning of sorrows, and Jesus teaches us these things from Matt 24. Its when we see all of these things happening together that I believe we can say that we have genuinely entered the period of ‘ the beginning of sorrows.”  Indeed we should be able to discern the signs of the times.  It seems that everything that can be shaken is being shaken, whether its in the desert sands, or on the sea floor or on the land. Politically, economically, naturally, everything is being shaken, and you can rest assured that it comes from the hand of God.

The Coming King

Posted by appolus on March 4, 2011

As I walked last night and spoke with the Lord, dusk began to fall and He whispered in my ear and laid upon my heart……

As the dusk of life is falling
And the sands of time run swift
As we approach the edge of glory
To Him our hands we lift

The last Outpouring is coming!

Posted by appolus on January 13, 2011

We will not have had the fullness of the Spirit’s outpouring until
baptized people separate themselves completely from the world.
We must emphasize separation and purity of heart. The purpose
of the Spirit’s coming is to sanctify and prepare a people for the
Lord’s return, a people without spot or wrinkle.

Things are about to get hotter!

Posted by appolus on January 11, 2011

Saints, I am convinced that there is a mighty battle going on right now, even as we speak. I believe that this battle will soon overflow from the spiritual realm into this physical realm. And we know from Scripture that our battle is against principalities and powers, against the worlds rulers, against the darkness of this age and against spiritual wickedness in high places. (eph 6:12) I am convinced that the saints that have been called to pray and intercede are experiencing trials and tribulations like never before because of this very battle. It may be in the mind and it may have physical manifestations or probably both. Now is the time for steadfastness. Now is the time to prevail and overcome. Now is not the time to shrink back although the flesh may cry out for that.

God Will Strike His Remnant People

Posted by appolus on July 7, 2009

Just as the Lord came to die so that He may bring forth life in the resurrection, so to with God’s remnant people. The people of the last day will be a martyred people, a genuine witness in the earth. Yet God will never abandon His people, especially at a time of extreme persecution, a time so severe that we have not seen the like before, a time that God Himself shortens for the elects sake.

Are your feet beautiful? (Are you a genuine witness?)

Posted by appolus on April 6, 2009

Only eye-witnesses to His glory will suffice as the days of history draw to a close. To tell others a story that you have been told is not good enough. Can you say, with the prophet “My eyes have seen the King?” Have you experienced the fullness of God? Has your whole “house,” been shaken by His majesty and His splendor? Is your feet beautiful? God’s Judgement upon the established Church and His raising of the remnant.

Posted by appolus on March 31, 2009

Eze 19:10 Your mother is like a vine in your blood, planted by the waters; she was fruitful and full of branches because of many waters. And she had strong rods for the scepters of those who bore rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches; and it was seen in her height, with the multitude of her branches. But she was plucked up in fury; she was thrown down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit. Her strong rods were broken and withered; the fire burned them up. And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground. And fire has gone out from a rod of her branches, which has licked up her fruit so that there is no strong rod in her to be a scepter to rule. This is a mourning and shall be for a mourning.

This word is an accurate representation of what has happened to the visible Church. In the story of Ezekiel, Israel has already been judged. Now it was time for Judah to be judged. In our modern day world, Israel undoubtedly represents the dead denominations that were replaced by Pentecostal churches and community churches across the land and around the world. These were vibrant places of worship where new life was found and the presence of God resided.

Ezekiel 17 starts out with a riddle from God. This , to the modern reader , may seem like a light-hearted thing. In the reality of the day that it was written, it was no such thing. Many times in the ancient world, a riddle would represent a mental competition between two kings in which the loser submitted to the winner and was killed. So, when God poses a riddle to King Zedekiah, we know that the King is in deep trouble. So what was the political situation in Zedekiah’s day and how does it parallel our own times?

King Zedekiah was placed on the throne By Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon. He had invaded Judah, just as Ezekiel prophesied. He took King Jeconiah, only 18 years old and ruler for a mere three months, and replaced him with Zedekiah. So, Jeconiah was the young tender branch in the riddle. Zedekiah is the seed that is planted in a fruitful field. The fruitful field is Jerusalem. This is represented by a willow tree, which is not a stately tree, but it does grow fast in wet soil. Jeconiah makes a covenant with Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar is his protector. Judah no longer has mighty men, they have been defeated by Babylon. Judah was now in an impotent state. It could not threaten or terrorize it neighbors, nor could it defend itself against other countries, it relied upon Babylon. Judah now paid tribute to Babylon. This was a great reversal of fortunes for the country that used to take tribute from others, it now pays tribute to Babylon and is completely dependent upon Babylon for its very survival. Sin has certainly changed the fortunes of Judah and one could draw many personal parallels from that story.

So , Zedekiah was the low vine in the riddle but he was still a blessing to Judah even although his branches were necessarily turned towards Babylon. Even in this lowly state, God was giving Judah an opportunity to rebuild itself in humility because Nebuchadnezzar could have easily completely crushed Judah. This was a window of opportunity to repent and rebuild. Yet, Jeconiah’s pride got the better of him, and he reached out to Egypt to make a secret alliance against Babylon. Egypt was the second eagle of the riddle. This would prove disastrous for Judah and for Jeconiah. Jeconiah is destroyed and his “roots,” pulled up.

Psa 107:4 They wandered in the wilderness, in a desert by the way; they found no city to dwell in.
Psa 107:5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
Psa 107:6 Then they cried to Jehovah in their distress, and He delivered them out of their troubles.
Psa 107:7 And He guided them by the right way, so as to go to a city to live in.
Psa 107:8 Oh that men would praise Jehovah for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the sons of man!
Psa 107:9 For He satisfies the thirsty soul, and fills the hungry soul with good.

Yes, indeed the Lord satisfies the hungry and thirsty souls. Yet, it would do well for all who have been fed and watered by the Lord to remain thankful and not to become discontent, for what happens to the man who is not thankful, or the church that is not thankful and becomes discontent?

Psa 107:10 Those who sit in the darkness and in the shadow of death, being chained in affliction and iron;
Psa 107:11 because they rebelled against the Words of God, and despised the advice of the Most High.
Psa 107:12 and He humbled their heart with labor; they fell down, and none was helping.
Psa 107:13 Then they cried to Jehovah in their distress, and He saved them out of their troubles.
Psa 107:14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands in two.
Psa 107:15 Let them praise Jehovah for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the sons of man!

Do you see the pattern of foolish man? Can you see the pattern of a foolish church who grow tired of seeking the living God, who grow discontent with their lot in life, who reach out to the world to gain that which God decided in His wisdom that they should not have, and they should not have it because of their very discontentment and lack of gratitude. Who impatiently and arrogantly seek to discover their own way in life at their own pace, forgetting that they are servants of the most High who has commanded us to wait upon His word. To only move when the cloud moves, to always follow His Presence.

Psa 107:17 Fools are afflicted because of their rebellion, and because of their iniquities.
Psa 107:18 Their soul hates all kinds of food; and they draw near the gates of death.
Psa 107:19 Then they cry to Jehovah in their distress, and He saves them out of their troubles.
Psa 107:20 He sent His Word and heals them, and delivers them from their pitfalls.
Psa 107:21 Let them praise Jehovah for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the sons of man!
Psa 107:22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with rejoicing!

How longsuffering is our Lord with His stiff-necked children? Time and time again He has mercy upon them and hears their cries and reaches out to them. Time and time again His heart is broken and He is compelled to withdraw from them in order that they may see the error of their ways and that they may become like the deer who panteth after the waterbrooks, that their souls may long after Him and not after the things of the world. Whether it is from Babylon or Egypt, it matters not for they both represent the world and oppression. Has the modern day church been invaded by Babylon? Is it now impotent and without power? Does it pay tribute to the world, does the world influence the church rather than the church influence the world? Has the Lord withdrawn His presence once again from a stiff-necked people?

Psa 107:25 For He commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves.
Psa 107:26 They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble.
Psa 107:27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and all their wisdom is swallowed up.
Psa 107:28 And they cry to Jehovah in their trouble, and He brings them out of their troubles.
Psa 107:29 He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still.
Psa 107:30 And they are glad because they are quiet; so He brings them to their desired haven.
Psa 107:31 Let them praise Jehovah for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the sons of man!

Brothers and sisters, it is time to come out of the world, to come out of the storm into the haven of the Lord Jesus Christ. In this haven we will find that He has calmed the storm and that the waves are still. We will praise Him for His presence and the peace that comes with it. We will know that in the world there is no good thing. Our strong desire will only be for Him and His presence.

Psa 107:32 And let them exalt Him in the congregation of the people, and praise Him in the gathering of the elders.
Psa 107:33 He sets rivers to a wilderness and water-springs to thirsty ground;
Psa 107:34 a fruitful land to a salty desert, because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
Psa 107:35 He turns the wilderness into water-ponds, and dry ground into water-springs.
Psa 107:36 And He makes the hungry dwell there, so that they may prepare a city to live in;
Psa 107:37 and sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
Psa 107:38 He also blesses them, so that they are multiplied greatly; and does not allow their cattle to become few.
Psa 107:39 Again, they have become few, and humbled through harshness, affliction, and sorrow.

Yes, those who allow themselves to be humbled through harshness will surely find water-ponds in the wilderness.” He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.”
Lord, Lord may those who continue on the narrow path that leads to life be broken by you and raised up again.

Eze 17:22 So says the Lord Jehovah: I, even I, will also take of the top of the highest cedar and will set it; I will crop off from the first of its young twigs a tender one, and will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.
Eze 17:23 In a mountain, in a high place of Israel, I will plant it. And it shall bear boughs, and bear fruit, and be a majestic cedar. And under it shall dwell every bird of every wing; in the shadow of its branches they shall dwell.
Eze 17:24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I Jehovah have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish. I Jehovah have spoken and acted.

God is, even as we speak, preparing rain for the “dry tree.” From the very top of the established tree, He will pluck a tender young twig and He will plant it on a high and prominent mountain. When one views a tall tree, it cannot see the very top branches, let alone a tender twig . Does God not always keep His chosen hidden? Can we even imagine what the Lord will do with what would be considered insignificant by the world at large. When the prophet came to choose a King, was he tall and significant? Was he even considered by others? No, but God knows. God takes the tenderest of twigs, that which is considered insignificant by that which is established and He raises it up.He pulls down the proud and the arrogant, in fact, He plucks it up by the roots. The east wind spoils all of its fruits, the east wind being the influence of the world.

Gen 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth tender sprouts (the herb seeding seed and the fruit tree producing fruit after its kind, whose seed is in itself) upon the earth; and it was so.

Gen 1:12 And the earth brought forth tender sprouts, the herb yielding seed after its kind, and the tree producing fruit after its kind, whose seed was in itself. And God saw that it was good.

2Ch 34:27 Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before your God when you heard His words against this place and against its people, and humbled yourself before Me, and tore your garments and wept before Me, I have even heard also, says Jehovah

Job 14:7 For there is hope of a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and its tender branch will not cease.

Isa 53:2 For He comes up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground; He has no form nor majesty that we should see Him, nor an appearance that we should desire Him.
