He who walks upon the sea of tears.

Posted by appolus on April 18, 2021

A poem for all the people who grew up in less than perfect households
.
He who walks upon the sea of tears.

I am fragile I can be broken
Broken by the words spoken
Can't you see your words are clawing me apart?
Can't you see how you're crushing my heart?

How my heart longed to hear warm words spoken
To be warm and whole and not to be broken
Why didn't you just reach out and touch me?
And cover me and hold me in love.

The broken child in you
Now breaks the child that you can see
Two broken children collide
Only wanting to be free

I am fragile I can be broken
Broken by the words left unspoken
And this brokenness is now a void in me
That is deeper and wider than the deepest sea

What can fix a broken heart?
And fill this vast expanse in me
What can fill an endless void?
That's deeper than the deepest sea

So many tears, enough to fill an ocean
Shed by all the children, broken
A Saviour comes and walks upon this sea of tears
He calms the stormy sea and quells the fears

I have come to mend the broken heart
To heal the wounds where you were torn apart
I have come to set the captive free
To dry up every tear that fills the deepest sea

I hold the universe in the palm of my hand
I cause the blind to see and the lame to stand
And all the stars in the heavens, I know them all by name
And I will touch you and you shall never be the same

The words I speak they are life and they are love
I know every sparrow that falls from above
I created the sun and the moon and the pouring rain
I still the stormy seas and I take away the pain

Come and bring your emptiness to me
And I will fill you with a love that's deeper than the sea
Come all you that are broken and contrite
And I will heal you and set you free this night

And so I came and took my Saviour's hand
Out of the pit on the solid Rock I stand
A broken heart replaced and reconciled
Standing whole and new, I am my Father's child

And every word spoken, they are life to me
Your love and Your kindness, they have set me free
And by thy Spirit my eternity is sealed
And by thy love my broken heart was healed.

That Still, Small Voice.

Posted by appolus on April 18, 2021

There is a voice that penetrates the veil, that pierces the darkness of my flesh and my mind. It is amazing how something so still and so gentle, can be heard above all the noise. In a storm it is almost impossible to hear anything, as the mind is tossed by wave after wave of thoughts that comes crashing down. Then suddenly through it all, through the darkness of the storm, comes a piercing shaft of light that illuminates a treacherous sea. Life and light has penetrated darkness and death. The still small voice of God almighty says “peace be still,” and the wind ceases and suddenly there is great calm. Thank you Father for that still, small voice that rescues me.

That still small voice.

Posted by appolus on April 11, 2021

Ride and ride with all your might
Push the horse into the night
Towards the dawn that’s straight ahead
Fleeing darkness fleeing dread

I have swam in violent seas of chaos
I have been caught in the lightning storms of life
Pushing mighty boulders up perpetual hills
I have baked in the sun and shivered naked with the chills

I have been a starving man
With my nose pressed against the window pane
I have wrestled with this world and sanity
And know something of what it means to be insane

And now I listen to the silence
Tis a table before me fit for a King
A glorious feast of beauty and peace
An immovable Spirit dwelling deep within

And in this silence where there is no noise
Can you hear it? Can you hear that still small voice?
A feast indeed to a starving man
To remember in your heart where it all began

In Christ alone I stand or fall
Tis a starving man who can’t hear His call
His silence His peace tis manna to my soul
For distractions and noise surely take their toll

Till there’s nothing left but a valley of dry bones
And tortured men with hearts full of stones
Starving and dying and withering away
They have long since forgotten how to listen and pray

Oh Christendom how often I would gather you in
Away from the world with its noise and its din
Those who can hear, in that day they shall stand
In the beauty of silence in the palm of My hand.

God is calling, He is calling today
Learn how to listen, to listen and pray
Distractions must cease and an end to all noise
Till once more you hear that still small voice.

A great multitude!

Posted by appolus on April 9, 2021

Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

There may be many Christians alone in this world or feeling isolated. Yet, there is coming a day when all brothers and sisters, as children of the living God, will gather around the throne. There will be millions, perhaps tens of millions from every tribe and every tongue and every nation on earth. As far as the eye can see they will stretch out and with one voice they will sing of the glories of their God.

And if we could shut our eyes and imagine the wheat fields of Kansas that stretch for endless miles in every direction, then one can begin to imagine that day when we gather around the throne, swaying as the wind of the Holy Spirit moves through us, individual yet as one. One Body, enraptured in the unadulterated presence of the Living God and continually praising Him. The trials and tribulations of this world at an end.

Every tear wiped away. No more sin, no more death, no more separation, only the glorious light that emanates from the throne itself.Yes, even in the very depths of our trials, we can call upon that name, the name of Jesus, the name that is above every name. The name by which everything must bow. Darkness becomes light in the name of Jesus. Hopelessness becomes hope in the presence of the Lord. Bitterness becomes forgiveness, strife becomes peace, captivity becomes freedom

2Co 3:17 And the Lord is that Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

Freedom to praise Him. And all of this because of Calvary. The way has been made. The gulf has been spanned. Our vision is ultimately an eternal vision. Look again, the endless miles of wheat, each stock moving and swaying in the wind like billows on the sea, are actually saints around the throne. Moving as one as the wind of the Spirit moves in and through us. One in mind and spirit praising the Living God with all the host of heaven. They cried “Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.”

From the valley to the glory.

Posted by appolus on April 8, 2021

How many times can a heart be broken
How many tears have to fall
How many times do I have to forgive
Or perhaps not forgive at all

When my steps grow tired and weary
And my sleep has vanished in the night
How can I go on living day by day
And not simply give up the fight

Where can I find the strength to go on
When it seems I have lost my way
How can I lift my head from the pillow
Even if it’s for just for one more day

Then all of a sudden I know He is here
My waiting has not been in vain
He comes to me through the fire and the flood
Through the heartache and through the pain

And suddenly I have the strength to carry on
I rise up on the wings of His love
Who knew I would rise o'r this valley of death
And find myself far far above.

I soar on the glorious splendor of Love
On the wings of the eagle I fly
I feast on the banquet He prepares for me
As I revel in the endless sky

There is a place where the setting Son
Merges sky and endless sea,
A place where different worlds collide
A place where you and I are free.

In God alone we find this place,
Where everything else is stripped away
And there I look into your face
Where endless sky meets ocean spray

Will you sail beyond horizons
In endless seas of blue
Will you fly in boundless skies above
You can as long as you are true.

If I could

Posted by appolus on March 22, 2021

If you ever had a time when you know you have fallen short? You thought you had traveled a thousand miles and you come upon a tree and you know you have seen that tree before which means , that it seems, that you are right back where you started. Your spirit is wearied that it shall never be done with this flesh that envelopes us and is an anchor to our soul, that always impedes us. You just want to stretch your hands to the heavens and say “here I am Lord, take me into the beauty of your holiness,” and your spirit weeps. I wrote this poem/song as I mourned the fact that apart from spirit, I am also flesh and blood and my spirit longs to be away.

If I could

If I could fly into Your sunset
I would
If I could dive into your Ocean
I would
If I could, If I could, If I could
I would.

If I could be swallowed up in your majesty
I would
If I could eternally drown in your Glory
I would
If I could, If I could, If I could
I would

If I could look into your face and never look away
I would
If I could fall into your Arms forever and a day
I would
If I could , If I could, If I could
I would

If I could fall with the day when the day is done
I would
If I could rise again upon the rays of the rising sun
I would
If I could, If I could , If I could
I would..............go.

The path that has no footsteps.

Posted by appolus on March 14, 2021

My friend Tom shared with me the other day the first two lines of this poem. He said he wanted to pursue the path that has no footsteps which would lead to places he has not been. I told him I was going to steal that line and write a poem based on it 🙂 So here it is with the proper attribution to my brother in the Lord, Tom who is in his late 70s and still wants to pursue the Lord with all of his heart.

The path that has no footsteps.

The path that has no footsteps
Leads to places I have not been
It is the mystery of our walk with God
To walk the path that is not seen

Who can know what lies before us
For our future remains untold
It rests in the hand of God alone
Trust in Him is our stronghold

Your life in Christ it has no chart
No compass can ever point the way
There is no map you can rely on
Only trust in Him for every day

There is no one can lead you forward
No man can craft your way ahead
Christ alone is the road we travel
He is the narrow path we tread

How exciting is this journey
That has brought us here thus far
The Holy Spirit goes before us
He is our Rock our true North Star

Lead us on oh Lord forever
Until our path comes to an end
Then we shall cross the Jordon river
And from this world we shall transcend.

This life and all the ages.

Posted by appolus on March 7, 2021

When every golden sunsets
And sunrises melt as one
By the fervent heat of your majesty
And the glory of your Son

There forms a golden ocean
As vast as the skies above
Where ambient waves of worship
Consume us in your love

Oh carry us across this sea
To the horizon and beyond
Make as one as thou art one
In a glorious mystical bond

When sea and sky and heaven too
Collide at the end of the age
May we be found as one with you
Our names written upon your page

This book of life is opened
And the ink is clearly red
Tis from the veins of Emmanuel
From the hands and feet that bled

This life and all the ages
Shall bow down and worship you
A new heaven and new earth are born
They are surely born anew.

My one desire.

Posted by appolus on February 18, 2021

This is my one desire Lord, my bright and morning star
That I might never linger, but come to where your are
To press on in to you, until you come into my view
And know you as you are, ever faithful ever true

You are my shining star, which ever leads me on
You are my blessed hope, when all my hope is gone
You are my very sanity, my reason to exist
The power that ever flows through me, the power to resist

This world is ever lost to me, with all its shining lights
A loss that truly set me free, on you I’ve set my sights
Now every day I walk with thee, it is my one desire
To sing the praises of my Lord, to join your heavenly choir

I rejoice here at your altar, I heard your altar call
And I who lived in vanity, now gladly give my all
I wonder at thy glorious grace, that alone has set me free
And the fact that all along, it was right there in front of me

The brightness of your majesty, I can barely handle
It renders the sun above, to but a lowly flickering candle
The vast expanse of ocean to but a single shallow tear
Your glory covers all the earth and consumes the atmosphere

I am completely swallowed up, by one who once was far
You are my Lord, Emmanuel, my bright and morning star
This soul that once was lifeless, now you have set on fire
To walk with you forevermore, this is my one desire

This is my desire!

Posted by appolus on February 12, 2021

This is my desire Lord, my bright and Morning star. To come to where you are, not to linger from afar but to press on in to you. Outside of thy presence is to wander in an aimless world that has purpose without any true purpose. You are my shining north star that ever leads me on. my hope when hope is gone, my reason to exist, my power to resist. This world with all its shining lights is forever lost to me, a loss that has set me free, taken from forever nights to walk with you in the cool of the day.

To thee I have given my all, you were my altar and I heard you call. And now I wonder at the grace that set me free, and marvel that one so blind can actually see what was there all along right in front of me, thy glorious face. The brightness of thy expression renders the sun to but a flickering candle in the wind. The vast expanse of ocean to but a single tear when thou art near. Consumed by one who once was far, my Lord my God my bright and Morning Star.

You supplied it all.

Posted by appolus on February 7, 2021

I thank you for the living waters
You poured upon the fires of hell
I thank you that you came and died
And in the dying broke sins spell

I thank you for the rising Lord
Now death itself has no more sting
And in the rising you raised me up
My Lord, my God my eternal King

I thank you for ascension Lord
When you arose and took your seat
Now I lift my eyes to where you are
One with you I’m now complete

I thank you for the glory Lord
Your majesty it knows no bounds
A magnificent scene surrounds your throne
It’s filled with joy and glorious sounds

Praise you for the living waters
Praise you that you came and died
Praise you for the Blood that cleanses
Praise you for all that you’ve supplied.

Not many seeking the cross.

Posted by appolus on December 13, 2020

You have to fly into the wind
If you want to reach the sky
You have to know something of His cross
For the flesh to suffer and die

There are many lovers of His crown
But few who would suffer loss
Many seek the treasures of heaven
But how many are seeking the cross?

Some only seek the dawns early light
Avoiding the darkness of the night before
No one can ascend to the mountain top
Unless they can negotiate the valley floor

We so often want the fruit of the harvest
Having never put our hand to the plow
We want all the benefits of our Lord
And we want it in the here and the now

The dawn comes to those who suffer the night
And glory to the lifter of His cross
There’s a crown that awaits the suffering saint
And those who gladly suffer the loss

Broken and set free

Posted by appolus on December 10, 2020

Are you broken are you vanquished and surrendered all the way
Have eyes to see and ears to hear just what the Spirit says
I cannot use a man who’s still standing on his feet
I can only use the man who shall sound a full retreat

Surrendered and broken, humbled and low
Vanquished forever that’s all that I know
When Jesus came in and took all of me
I who was captive, now eternally free

Eternally free, eternally free
I who was captive now eternally free

The day I met my Jesus I was lost and alone
He took me for Himself, no longer my own
I surrendered all, it was no longer me
Belonging now to Jesus broken and set free

Broken and free , broken and free
Belonging now to Jesus, broken and set free.

Now as a broken vessel, His treasure dwells within
And with a heart that’s full of love, no hiding place for sin
Troubles oft surround me yet I am not distressed
For in this full surrender I am truly blessed

I am truly blessed, I am truly blessed
For in this full surrender I am truly blessed

Who could know?

Posted by appolus on December 4, 2020

Who could know that the child who would walk on water
Was also the Lamb being prepared for the slaughter
Who could know that the man who would heal the blind
Would be reviled, rejected, hated and maligned

Who could know that the man who would walk in peace
Was God Himself, the Christ, a living Masterpiece
Who cold know that the man who would heal the lame
Would baptize, not with water, but with a burning flame

Who could know that the One who would turn water into wine
Was also the Branch, the giver of life, Himself the Grapevine
Who could know that the one who would raise men from the dead
Would die Himself with a crown of thorns upon His Holy head

We know that Christ was made in the likeness of man
He humbled Himself that He might fulfill His Father’s plan
He was obedient unto death and would die upon a tree
He would break the chains of hell and death and set the captives free

Who could know that the child lying there in the manger
Would face the wrath of hell itself and overcome all danger
The heavenly choirs of angels knew and sang with all their might
And the shepherds knew down in their hearts on that glorious starry night.

He is the Vine

Posted by appolus on November 11, 2020

Oh vine, how precious are you now
I am safe within thy graft
Sap flows to every part of me
Now I am part of something vast

With every part of who I am
I in thee abide
Precious waters flow to me
Like a great incoming tide

Life, I feel it’s precious flow
And in that life I dwell
It’s deep and it’s unquenchable
To me an never ending well

Oh the depths of what has set me free
Abiding in the vine and the vine in me
Just to be part of the Olive tree
Sets my grateful soul on fire

Oh Lord my God now comes the fruit
Tis thy work alone, tis every shoot
Tis all thy work who pruneth me
Who died and rose and set me free

And the walls come down.

Posted by appolus on September 29, 2020

There is an ocean of pain within her heart
Each chamber filled up to the brim
Full up with tears from all of the years
And in them she perpetually swims

The walls of her heart stands strong as a dam
Mighty bulwarks that hold back the pain
Yet the waters are dangerously close to the top
And dark clouds always threaten to rain

As He lay on the cross His hands were pierced
So to the dam which began to crumble
A life-time of pain and a lake full of tears
Washed away with a frightening rumble

Like Jericho itself the walls came down
And the river flowed again in her heart
He took her to Himself and she was born anew
Eternally and forever set apart

My faithful Lord

Posted by appolus on November 26, 2019

Oh Bread of heaven fill my soul
Fill every part of me
Waters from the Rock pour forth
And fill the deepest sea

Oh Lord my God of every pardon
Do not pass me by
For you are full of radiant glory
Which fills the earth and sea and sky

Oh faithful God you hear my cry
For you are ever near
Your mercies are my very life
You Spirit fills my atmosphere

Oh Lord you are my fire by night
The cloud that covers me
You made a way when there was no way
And you opened up the sea

Oh Lord you mastered every storm
Here I stand, still whole
You are the lifter of my head
For you are in control

Oh Lord it’s all within your hand
Today and my tomorrow
Your joy it strengthens all of me
And quenches all my sorrow.

All that He’s created

Posted by appolus on October 24, 2019

When the heat of the summer’s over
And the leaves begin to fall
And winter fast approaches
I feel so very small

The grandeur of the seasons
Tis God’s own ticking clock
And through the seasons of my life
I’m compelled to simply stop

And survey the wonders of the heavens
That declare the glory of my King
And all around I see His beauty
And to His throne my praises bring

To stand atop the highest mountain
To soar with the eagles up above
To gaze at the stars in all their splendor
Does not compare to His rapturous love

For one so small I stand amazed
In the throne room so serene
For his glory eclipses everything
That I have ever seen

Come now oh children of the Lord
And hear what I have stated
The handiwork of Christ our King
And all that He’s created

Storms and chains and blinding rains

Posted by appolus on July 5, 2019

I have just released this e-book. It has 77 poems from the valley, from the depths of the trials and the tribulations the Lord has brought be through. They are raw and hold nothing back. They were mostly written in real time, meaning in the midst of whatever trial or valley I was walking through. It is sharable, so if you get it you can share it with as many people as you like at no cost, especially if they are in the depths of a trial or in one of the more narrower parts of the path.

My prayer is that they will manna to the hungry soul and water to those in the wilderness. The number 77 did nor come randomly. When I put them all together there was 76, and so I added one more from a vision I had many years ago to make up the 77. I would consider this my Magnum Opus.

Fields of Glory

Posted by appolus on March 3, 2019

Latest collaboration between myself and Aileen Gilchrist. I wrote this song based on a vision I had many years ago of what worship looked like in heaven.
