Unless the Lord builds the house

Posted by appolus on March 6, 2015

Psa 127:1 A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Hab 2:12-13 Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity! Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

The people shall weary themselves for their vanity. Men who build their own kingdoms weary themselves and others by their pride. To work feverishly towards worldly aims is to labor in the fire. In the end it produces nothing of eternal value, nothing. This is a plain truth to the man or woman of God. The present danger is that so much labor goes on in Christendom which is merely laboring in the vanity of building a man’s house, laboring in the fire, a fire that will consume all wood , hay and stubble. When the Lord builds the house then our labor produces gold and silver, refined by the very same fire. One set of works is consumed and turned to ashes, the other works is refined and beautified and eternal. This truth applies not only to churches but we as individuals. Does the Lord direct your steps? Is His Kingdom and the building of it our main priority? Now please do not confuse that with any kind of works as in ministries, although it can be, but first and foremost it starts with us. We we stones that are being shaped to fit rightly into the Temple, living stones for a living temple. We must yield to the Master builder’s hammer and chisel. This is our chief work. If we are not doing that, if we are not being refined and shaped by God, if we are not learning to yield to the Holy Spirit, then all other work is in vain.
