Love is the wound that bleeds

Love becomes the wound that bleeds
From nail pierced hands and wounded side
And breaks the bread and many feeds
It’s the shadow in which we hide
Love is the blow taken in my stead
The healing balm of Gilead
The narrow path He has tread
That led Him to Calvary
Love is the thorn that pierced His brow
Jagged stripes upon His back
He loved me so I know not how
And hell began to crack
Love is the blow taken in my stead
The healing balm of Gilead
The narrow path He has tread
That led Him to Calvary
Love’s the cry “I am forsaken”
This cry is heard before the throne
In the valley the bones awaken
As love hangs and and dies alone
Love is the blow taken in my stead
The healing balm of Gilead
The narrow path He has tread
That led Him to Calvary
Love’s the stone that’s rolled away
The tomb that once was occupied
Now is lit by a new day
Angels sang and they testified
Love is the blow taken in my stead
The healing balm of Gilead
The narrow path He has tread
That led Him to Calvary
Love has conquered hell and death
And healed the mortal wounds of man
Whose praises rise with every breath
Covers all of heavens span
Love is the blow taken in my stead
The healing balm of Gilead
The narrow path He has tread
That led Him to Calvary
