THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS

There’s a phrase we use in the world: “The devil is in the details.”

It’s usually applied to negotiations or contracts, a warning to examine how things will actually work out. But there is another application to that phrase.

When you are in a trial, in a tribulation, and you allow your mind to go over and over and over every aspect of the circumstance, something begins to happen. You surrender control of your mind.
We are told to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Yet when we rake over every detail of what has happened, rehearsing it, replaying it, analyzing it, and then telling one person, and then another, and another, adding to it each time, we are not walking in that obedience. We are multiplying our sorrows.

The Scripture says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3).

Notice, peace is connected to where the mind stays.

Think about this.

How does a bird feed its young? It regurgitates food from its stomach back into the mouths of its chicks. That is how nature works.

But when we regurgitate, and let’s use the plain word, vomit, our circumstances to five other people, and then they begin to add their own details to our story, we are not seeking peace. We are reliving it. We are feeding on it again.

The apostle Paul instructs us clearly: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6–7).

The guarding of the heart and mind comes after we bring it to God, not after we rehearse it before men.

Instead, when we continually retell and relive the circumstance, we rake over the ashes and coals of what has happened. We fan embers back into flame. We reset the fire of the circumstance rather than bringing it to the Lord and finding peace in Him.

We forget that the Lord was not in the wind, nor in the earthquake, nor in the fire, but in the still small voice (1 Kings 19:11–12).

And that stillness cannot be heard in a mind that is constantly agitated.

So remember this, brothers and sisters:
Unless you are in a place of peace, unless you have quieted your mind enough to hear the still, small voice of God, do not regurgitate the story. Do not relive it again and again.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).

If the treasure becomes the injury, the offense, the trial, then the heart will remain there.But if the treasure is Christ, then the mind will return to Him.
You are not glorifying the Lord by rehearsing the wound.You are not edifying your brothers and sisters by spreading the ashes.

And you are not strengthening yourself by reliving the fire.

You are adding to your sorrows (Psalm 16:4).

Victory in Christ

Who, I ask you, who can separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall trial? Shall agony? Shall persecution or hunger or nakedness or danger or the edge of the sword?
It is written—For Your sake we are killed all the day long. We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

And yet—yet! In all these things, not outside of them, not after them, but in the very midst of them, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

I am fully persuaded—utterly convinced—anchored with a faith that will not be shaken,
That neither death, nor life,
Nor angels nor demons,
Nor rulers nor tyrants,
Nor the present agony nor the looming shadow of the future,
Nor the height of ecstasy nor the depths of despair,
Nor anything that has ever been created in heaven or on earth or beneath the earth
—none of it, nothing—
shall be able to sever us, to tear us, to pry us loose from the love of God which is ours in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Oh, do you see it, saints?
We are more than conquerors—not just survivors, not merely enduring, but victorious with eternal weight—in every circumstance.

Whether clothed in splendor or stripped bare in affliction,
Whether seated in honor or cast into the pit of shame,
Whether celebrated or scorned,
Whether fed at a banquet or starved in a wasteland,
Whether on the mountaintop or in the furnace—we overcome.

And we do not boast in our own strength. No! We walk humbly before men when they praise us. And we fall humbly before God when they revile us. For in the kingdom of God, victory and defeat are not what the world claims they are.

The cross proves this.

For at the hour when Jesus hung stripped, beaten, nailed to a tree—when the world saw only ruin,
He was in fact winning the greatest victory ever known in heaven or on earth.
He triumphed over sin. He broke the power of death.
He shamed the powers of darkness and bore the full weight of the wrath of God.
And He did it not by avoiding the humiliation—but by embracing it, enduring it for the joy set before Him.

And now, because He conquered, we too conquer.

Because He stood, we stand.

Because He rose, we rise.

So let the sword come. Let famine rage. Let persecution howl. Let all hell be loosed against us.
We will not be moved.
For we are more than conquerors—not in ourselves, but in Christ Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

And nothing—nothing—shall separate us from His love.

Walking in the Light

sun rays1Jn 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

This then is the message that John has heard. He brings it all together in the statement that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. What then is the message? John says in the opening verses that he has seen the Christ with his own eyes. With his own ears he has heard God speak to him through the flesh. His eyes beheld Him and he even touched him. He handled the Word of Life. He embraced Him and he hugged Him and he kissed him on the cheek. For over three years he walked with Him, he walked with God and the message that he is now sharing is that in Him there was no darkness at all, they had walked in the light, and in this all-seeing all-knowing light it was impossible to walk in darkness. You simply could not walk with Jesus, could not fellowship with God if you were walking in darkness for God would call you on it.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (1Jn 1:7)

What does it mean to walk in the light? It is not a small point, it is a vital point for it has major ramifications for who we are and how we live before men. You will notice that it says that if we walk in this light then we shall have fellowship one with another. Now, perhaps you did not know but there is two possible interpretations of this phrase ” one with another.” Many have believed that it means fellowship with other believers would not be possible if one were walking in the darkness. The other interpretation and the one that I believe and prefer is that “one with another” means having fellowship with God. Now, this will ultimately lead to a breaking in fellowship with other believers who may be walking in the dark, but primarily this scripture speaks to our relationship with God.
