Enemies of the cross of Christ-Spurgeon

Posted by appolus on May 31, 2013

“No man who is the friend of the Cross of Christ will give license to his passions, or indulgence to his appetites. If he does so, he proves that he is the enemy of the Cross of Christ. No man will seek honor for himself who has known that Christ has bought him with His blood. He will not, he cannot, he dare not live for himself, either in the accumulating of wealth, or the getting of fame, or the enjoyment of pleasure. His first, chief, master thought is, “For Jesus Christ all things—all things in Him, and for Him, and to Him, seeing that He has redeemed us with His precious blood.” They who shirk His service, who take no interest in holy enterprises, who just try to live to themselves—your eaters and your drinkers, your hoarders and your men and women who are always adorning the body, but never consecrating their souls to God—these are they who are “the enemies of the Cross of Christ.” It galls their shoulders and they will not bear it, so they turn aside to ways of their own.”-Charles H. Spurgeon

That is just a good word! Read that some time ago, but a wonderful reminder. Blessings brother. We are now in Bartlesville.

Praise the Lord brother, we shall meet soon. Brother Brian and Martha and the family are precious. I am looking forward to meeting you guys when I come down for the meetings……………bro Frank

  2. Hmmm… Spurgeon’s reasoning doesn’t seem to leave much room for the stumbling of the immature. My Bible teaches me that we GROW in the grace and knowledge of Christ. Don’t know that he and I would have seen eye to eye on everything.

Johnny , I think Spurgeon had a lot of patience with babes in Christ, but there comes a point where one can see who a man or a woman is living for, not perfection, but passion. Where does the passion lie? Does it lie in following Him as hard as we can and know how to, or are we still passionate about the world and all that it has to offer? Sometime people can be ever learning but never coming to a knowledge of the truth because the truth requires something that lies at the very heart of us, it demands the seat of our affections and this can be seen by others, not perfection, but passionate following……………………bro Frank

Well, bro Frank, Mr. Spurgeon would be thrown out of the American churches as judgmental and unloving.
But guess what, so would the apostle Paul, Peter, James, John and most of all the Lord Jesus. May God
open our eyes, ears and hearts to embrace the cross.

It’s not so difficult to abandon it all for Jesus Christ when we know how much he loves us.
In fact it is most freeing!!!. Yes, there is suffering, yes, there is sacrifice,
and there is joy in the journey, but at the end of life here it will all be worth it!

    Ruined for this world,
    (many of us getting there)
    Praise be to our God
