All the things that many American Christians hold dear have been severely challenged by the re-election of President Obama. I have not a single doubt that the Lord is in charge of it all and is at work. There are many idols in the American church and they are being challenged every day. Can I tell you that I full expect to see the Republican party throw off even the pretense of ” values,” and ” faith.” Now why would I think that is a good thing? Well, because if the Lord hates anything, we know He hates hypocrisy. This election has cut like a knife to the heart of serial hypocrisy. Just look at the Billy Graham organisation pulling down their literature on Mormonism for political expediency. This is perhaps one of the final nails in the coffin of Evangelicalism. And so my own answer to the question posed by so many today ” where do we go from here?” is to do what we should be doing all the time, following hard after Jesus. He must be our grand obsession, not taxes. He must be our all in all, not the result of the next election. He must have the pre-eminence in our lives, not our lives itself and how well we can do in this world. He must be Lord and Savior, not some president or worldly leader.
All of our hope is in Him, all of our trust is in Him, all of our joy is in Him, all of our peace is in Him, all of our security is in Him, all of our eternal future is in Him. He is the same yesterday, today and forever despite how the world is changing. The greatest plagues in America is abortion and people rightly point out that there have been almost 60 million abortions. That means that there are 60 million murderers out there needing to know the truth and needing to get right with the Lord before they face Him. Almost 50% of this country’s marriages end up in divorce, that means that the overwhelming majority of those divorcees are sinner and adulterers needing to find true repentance before they meet their Maker. This country has the highest murder rate per head of population in the western world, that means that we are a country of violence, violent men will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
This country is the richest country in the world and even although it only represents 5% of the world’s population, it consumes almost 40% of its goods. This country is responsible for 90% of all pornography viewed in the world. This country consumes vast amounts of drugs and that is at the core of the drug wars. This country buys most of the diamonds in the world and this causes untold misery in diamond producing regions. Brothers and sisters I could go on, so whats my point? My point is that God will not indict ” the government” when you stand before the throne, every man and woman will stand before God Almighty and account for his own actions. Dont blame the government for anything, its a not so subtle way of avoiding our own guilt as a nation of people. Democracies produce governments that reflect the people. And so the real point is, if this country has so much abortion, divorces, murders, pornography, materialism and so on, why does that not simply reflect badly on the people itself? Why do the people try to blame the government for all of the social ills?
Can I tell you brothers and sisters, its starts with the churches. They refuse to preach the truth or hear the truth. Imagine a pastor in the average church in America preached against some of the greatest ills facing the nation, divorce and materialism, imagine he preached it every week and challenged the hearers, asking them ” are you a thief, are you divorced, are you an adulterer?” How long to you suppose he would last? And so we have hirelings for the most part who tickle the ears of the hearers. There is a famine of the Word of God in the land preached with Holy Spirit power and the people are starving. There is a drought of His presence in the Land and the people are wandering aimlessly. This is the great tragedy of the age, this is the crisis of the age, this is the present crisis and can I suggest to you that this is one of the primary reasons this nation is getting darker every year. Not the liberals, not the socialists, not Democrats not big government, but the people themselves. But the people are unable to digest meat anymore so they must find a scape-goat or scape-goats for their ills. Brothers and sisters, as I have said time and time again on this blog, seek the Lord with your whole heart, holding nothing back. Hold all things loosely. The days are going to get darker because the people are blind. (Isa 5:13) For this My people go into exile without knowledge, and their honorable men into famine, and his multitude is dried up with thirst.
To the greatest extent, Christendom has been exiled from the manifest presence of God, they are ” without knowledge.” Even their ” honorable men,” are dying of starvation. Who will stand up today for the truth? When will we look in the mirror and see what ails us? We believe that we are rich and in need of nothing and that it’s all the bad old worlds fault, but we are actually wretched and naked and blind to our true natures. I pray that God will open up our blind eyes that we may see His glory. I pray that God will open up our eyes that we may see the ragged nature of what we clothe ourselves with, for we are certainly not wrapped in light, which is the greatest weapon against the darkness, not men or the systems of men. Dear Father in Heaven forgive us
And He spoke this parable to certain ones who trusted in themselves, that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed within himself in this way: God, I thank You that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax-collector. I fast twice on the Sabbath, I give tithes of all that I possess. And standing afar off, the tax-collector would not even lift up his eyes to Heaven, but struck on his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner! I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.
