Principalities and Powers

Posted by appolus on February 28, 2015

There is an ancient battle that is playing out before our eyes. Now this battle has always been ongoing for those with eyes to see, but now the battle is increasing and will eventually be globally recognized. There will be an unveiling of evil for all the world to see. The anti-christ is arising and at some point will be unveiled.

ISIS and the various groups right now that have captured the media and worlds attention by their acts of horror, are but a mere prelude for what is to come. If we are to have ” eyes to see and ears to hear,” what is going on and what is to shortly unfold, let us look at Scripture. Many do not realize that Job was the first book of the Bible to be written which makes it a book of huge importance. All Scripture is Divine and important, but there is always something about the first and the last books. And so, what was the Lord showing to us in the drama that unfolded in Job…………….

Job 1:7-11 And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” (8) Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” (9) So Satan answered the LORD and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? (10) Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. (11) But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”

Here we see the principalities and powers before the throne, Satan, making accusation against Job, a man whom God has declared ” a blameless and upright man.” Imagine God declaring you blameless and upright!! High praise, in fact there can be no higher. And Satan, of course, cynically and with extreme contempt, pours scorn on Job. He is not only accusing Job of only worshiping God because He has poured out favor on Him and protects him, Satan is actually calling God a liar. God will now show Satan that he is wrong. He allows Job to lose everything and become even physically afflicted. Job passes the test and proves Satan wrong. Yet, this is the ancient accusation against all of God’s people down through the ages. Everything must be tested, refined in the fire, established. Listen to Ephesians 3:8-11…………..

Eph 3:8-10 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, (9) and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ; (10) to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places,

You see Paul here speaking of the “fellowship of the mystery.” And the purpose was to ” make all see,” that which has been hidden in God from the beginning of the ages. God would have a victorious people drawn not only from the Israelites but also from the gentiles and He would make from them one Body by which all the nations of the earth would be blessed. Those nations that dwelt in darkness would have in their midst, a people of light. Now every individual saint’s faith is tested, tried in the fires of suffering and tribulation. This reveals not that we are weak, but that Christ in us is strong. Not only will we not curse God and die, we will actually praise God from the deepest dungeons and from the darkest of circumstances thus fleshing out the living reality of God dwelling in us. This is so ” the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the Church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places.” Imagine if you will, a divine court room where exhibit number one is Jesus and His followers. Jesus proved by His actions that He was the Son of God came in the flesh. The Body proves by its actions the reality of the Christ that dwells within, not only individually but corporately.

Now we who were dead in our trespasses, He has brought us up from the dead in a second birth that has wiped out those very trespasses. We had the ” handwriting of requirements that was against us,” taken by Christ Himself and it was nailed dead to the cross. In doing this, Jesus strikes a fatal blow against the accuser of the brethren by having “disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” (Col 2:13-15) Jesus had come from the lofty heights of glory in heaven, the only begotten Son of the Living God, and humbled Himself and became like a man. Would He curse God? Would He fall down at Satan’s feet and worship Him rather than go to Calvary? Even although His Father in heaven allowed Satan to abuse Him, ridicule Him, torture Him and spit on Him and then nail Him to a tree, He never wavered in His love for His Father. He confounded the enemy and the principalities and powers by revealing the great mystery and by doing so he ” disarmed” them and made a “public spectacle,” of them, triumphing over them in it.” Jesus had led captivity itself, captive and by doing so gave the gift of live, overcoming life to all men who would follow Him, the gift of being able to disarm principalities and powers and make a public spectacle over them by the power of the indwelling Spirit of Christ.

And so brothers and sisters we have been called to this. Individually and corporately¬† . We must not be afraid in these coming days of those who hate us. Fear is an ancient tactic employed by many despots and evil men. They would carry out gross acts of vile wickedness and mass murder and rape, and terror would go before them, often disabling their enemies before they even met in battle and caused people to scatter. Paul tells us in Philippians 1:27-29 that we are to ” Stand fast in one Spirit with one mind striving together for the faith of the Gospel, and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them proof of perdition, but to you salvation, and that from God. For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him but also to suffer for His sake.”

When we suffer for His sake brothers and sisters and far from curse God but rejoice in Him, then we disarm principalities and powers. We ” prove,” to that old ancient liar that this is exactly what he is and we do it all by the indwelling power of the risen Christ. He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind. His perfect love demonstrated through us casts out all fear and makes a public spectacle of principalities and powers. It diametrically opposes their lie that force must be met with force, that evil must be rendered for evil for good to triumph. Jesus overcame them on the cross and He cried out to His Father to forgive His enemies. The first martyr Stephen cries out even as He was being cruelly stoned, that this would not be held against the ones stoning Him. This is the power of God that breaks ancients chains of evil and establishes the witness of Christ to the world and to the principalities and powers.

We are reminded in Eph 6:11-13 that we have to put on the whole armor of God if we are to stand against the wiles of the devil. We are plainly told that it is not flesh and blood that we wrestle with but principalities and powers and if we are to stand in the evil day to come we must do it by putting on the whole armor of God. Paul tell us in Romans 8 that he is persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. You see brothers and sisters, when we are walking according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh, even although “we are killed all the day long, we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter,” we are still more than conquerors in Him who loved us, Jesus Christ our Lord.

No sword, no knife can separate us from that Love in fact it can only be a proof against that ancient liar and accuser of the brethren. Listen to the conversation between Job and his wife after he has lost everything and mourned the day he was born Then his wife said to him,”Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!” But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.” And later he makes one of the greatest declarations of faith, let us join with him and by doing so disarm principalities and powers Job 13:15 Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.

Amen! Terrible times are coming, but we don’t need to live in fear. For we are more than conquerors through Jesus. Praise Him!
