Two competing voices within ourselves.

Posted by appolus on February 5, 2025

If I had a dollar for every time someone said “God told me,” I’d be a wealthy man. Yet, in the spirit of generosity and assuming the best of my brothers and sisters, I recognize that much of what has been spoken to me—often with sincere intentions—has been filtered through the prism of their soul and flesh. I’m primarily talking about Pentecostals as opposed to Charismatics of whom I have limited experience. Don’t get me wrong, I believe with all of my heart God speaks to His people and they know His voice.

However, it must also be acknowledged that we tend to “hear” what we want to hear. The flesh is cunning, and it has a voice—a persuasive, insistent voice that will use any means necessary to get its way. I hear it most clearly when I’ve been wronged, when the inner narrative in my mind begins constructing its defense, justifying responses that are anything but godly.

Yet that same loud voice can also be very subtle, whispering in ways that seem harmless, even reasonable. Ways that are always self-serving.This is precisely why Scripture calls us to “mortify” the deeds of the flesh. It is why we are commanded to take up our crosses daily. The more we die to our flesh, the clearer our spiritual hearing becomes—allowing us to discern the Lord’s voice. And His voice will never contradict His Word.

Discernment begins with ourselves (our self) Learn to identify the “voice,” of your flesh and begin to oppose it. Give it no quarter, for the flesh will not give your spirit any. It is it’s mortal enemy. Mortal being the operative word, for its time is short and it knows it. That’s why it wants to “eat, drink and be merry.” Crucify the voice of the flesh, take every thought captive and you will hear the voice of the Lord, speaking through your spirit all the more clearly.

    Absolute Truth Brother Frank.

(Psa 81:11) But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me. (Psa 81:12 ) So I gave them up unto their own hearts’ lust: and they walked in THEIR OWN counsels.

There are several Old Testament accounts of this and helping us to understand what GOD is showing us. In general Israel did not want to hear GODS Voice so they told Moses we only want to hear your voice.

We are a mirror image of Israel and have done and do the same stupid things they did. So, every part of scripture is speaking to us to help us understand better.

Think Saul & David read their biblical acct. When Saul disobeyed the LORD it says, ” an evil spirit from the LORD troubled Saul. That’s when the LORD opened the door for David to come in and play music for Saul.

(1Sam 16:14) But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit FROM the LORD troubled him. & (1Sam16:23) And it came to pass, when the evil spirit FROM God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

There is also the Lying Spirit that GOD sends to Ahab in (1 Kings 22:22&23).

When you read ALL the Old Testament you see that over & over & over they disobeyed GOD and did “their own” thing. It Says, in (Judges 17:6 ) In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes. Anotherwords the same old Alister Crowley famous quote: “Do what thou wilt”, that we see all over the world today.

(Isaiah 63:10) But they rebelled and vexed his holy Spirit therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and HE fought against them.

(Proverbs 16:33) says: The lot is cast into the lap; BUT the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.

When we are disobedient HE gives us what we want to hear instead of the Truth and what we need to hear.

(2Thess 2:11) And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

This is one of my favorites that just somehow seems to be overlooked. Jesus is speaking.

(John 14:24) He that loveth me NOT keepeth NOT MY sayings: and the word which ye hear is NOT MINE, BUT the Father’s which sent me.

Well, we know that the Father that sent Jesus was NOT the “father of lies”. So, that can ONLY mean GOD the FATHER is giving them what they want to hear because they choose NOT to do things HIS Way.

Hebrews chapter 12:25&26 say we’d better be willing to listen to GODS Voice in the Last Days and NOT do what Israel did.

I’ve found that the LORD has shown me the importance of paying CLOSE attention to anything that The LORD GOD says and the “Thus Saith the LORD GOD” in the Old Testament & and then what Jesus says in the NEW Testament. When you do the Word of GOD is much better understood, for that is when GODLY wisdom is given.

    HalleluYAH Praise YHWH.

Amen!!! There is the spirit of Saul and the spirit of David. One is of the flesh and the other one is of the Spirit. The one hates the other. There is the spirit of the pharisees and the Spirit of Jesus. One is of the flesh and the other one is the Spirit and the flesh hated the spirit. There is the spirit of religious men and the spirit of those genuinely saved, one hates the other. It has always been so and we have that dichotomy within us and will have it until this corruptible flesh is raised in in-corruption………………bro Frank
