Come up higher

Posted by appolus on February 21, 2015

Psa 125:2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

The Lord Jesus is as a mountain to His people. He is our higher ground. He towers over our valleys and beckons us to come up higher, to come to Him and rise above our circumstances. When you are in the valley of weeping lift up your eyes and see where your help comes from. Three times a year the people of God were called to come up to Jerusalem, to the temple of God. Psalms 120-134 are songs of ascendancy. It was vital for Gods people to come unto the sanctuary at various times throughout the year. This would give them the strength to dwell in the valleys and plains where they lived. Jesus, in a larger sense, came down from the mountain of heaven to the valley of this world. Time and time again He retreated to the mountain. He shared some of the greatest truths from the mountain, consider His ” sermon on the mount.” He would retreat to the mountain and get alone with His Father. Brothers and sisters, do not neglect this higher ground. One must come up and into the presence of God if one is to navigate the deep valleys of life.

Good morning from Mexico brother Frank……This is a very good post. The time has come for every remnant saint of God to “Accend” to the top of the mountain. The top of the mountain is truly where we will find God. As you already know, I was captured by the drug cartels a couple of years ago, and held hostage for a short while, and that became my mountain top experience. Sinse that time the following song has become my very favorite song.

When I get to the top of the mountain
and I view Gods promised land.
I was never alone in the valley,
for I was kept by a mighty strong hand.

I’ve been kept by a mighty strong hand
I’ve been kept by a mighty strong hand.
Every mile that I have traveled
    through this troublesome land
I’ve been kept by a mighty strong hand.

Blessings from Mexico my eternal brother……….Robert

I love that this was your mountain top experience. How many words have I written over the years trying to convey that the highest mountain top experience comes in the deepest and darkest valleys of our lives. God bless you bro Robert and may His majesty shine upon you……………………bro Frank

  2. I’ve heard this termed “Abide Above.” One of the things about abiding above is this: we seem to have a clearer appreciation for what is true and what our Father has done on our behalf. A case in point:

When one is struggling with sin, they don’t necessarily feel near to God. They don’t necessary feel worthy or consider themselves more than a conqueror. The fact is though, through one’s union with Christ they are all of these things regardless of one’s circumstances. That is the position they have garnered through the merits of Jesus Christ. When we live upon this level we always consider “the earthly ramifications” more than what our Father has promised. On the contrary, through an abiding intimacy our circumstances in the present seem small and trivial, they hold little or no power over us nor do we feel alone in them.

I’ll be 52 in July and I’m getting married this year for the 1st time. After some time together online I approached my soon to be younger wife and reminded her of my present “circumstances” just to be sure she was ok with all that. Guess what? She said, “Are you trying to talk me out of marrying you?” Don’t you know by now that I live by faith, I trust My Father and your circumstances have nothing to do with it!

Wow. That’s abiding above, that’s abiding with Him on the mountain! I so little deserve her, but praise God for her- and the reminder she offered me.

No matter what is happening, we can always abide above. He’s always waiting for us to draw near and remind us of all He has done and is capable of doing. He can change our lives in an instant.

NOW to Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, beyond all we ask or think- that’s what He did for me with my soon to be bride. 25 years of praying for her, and not a moment of regret since.

ABIDE ABOVE: The rewards are out of this world!
