Knowing Jesus and knowing about Jesus

Posted by appolus on November 5, 2011

1Jn 5:20  And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Joh 17:3  And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Whatever fills the heart floods the mouth. Listen and hear what a man talks about. The man that genuinly knows Jesus will almost always be talking about Him. Religious men talk about issues, and typically issues that divide, and they do that because they are speaking about what they know.

If they knew Jesus, their hearts would be filled with Him and their mouths would be flooded by words that talk of their grand passion. You will know a man by His works for sure, but you will also know a man by HIs words. Someone who is obsessed with sports only ever talks about sports. Another man may be obsessed by politics and that is what he continually speaks about. He can only really relate to others of like passion. The religious man will speak about issues, and will only be able to relate to others who are like-minded. They will congratualte each other and commend each other. Yet the man who ” knows ,” Jesus will talk about that knowing and want others to know Him too. Beware of the man who is identified by issues, look for the man who is identified by Jesus.

Eternal life is knowing Jesus. Better to know Jesus than to know about Him. Better, when we speak, to speak of what we know rather than to speak on issues that we know about. And this is life in Christ, knowing Him, all life flows from that. Those who know Jesus and speak of whom they know, speak life. Those who know about Jesus, speak of issues that do not flow from the heart but from that which can be seen, the outer issues, that bring condemnation. Both seem virtuous, one is life, the other is sensual wisdom, meaning wisdom that does not come from God.

Luk 6:45

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Good afternoon. WOW it’s been a long time. I’ve been active in facebook, but trying to shift back to the WordPress forum. It sounds weird, but there’s less distraction here. Anyways, this is such an important topic. I know people who talk about sports all day. Whenever I see them, they have their phones out and are playing various sports related games. And then I’ll be asked by them “what’s the good word?” In other words, they want just enught of Jesus to present an image, but their heart is truly elsewhere. Last week, when someone aske me that question (What’s the good word) I became so frustrated with the lack of sincerety that I replied “we’re all going to die.” Needless to say, it was a somewhat unexpected piece of truth. And while it was kind of funny, it was really meant to make a point. All of this passes away and the only thing that matters is our relationship with Jesus. Thanks for addressing this issue. Truly out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.

    Blessings always in Jesus name.
