Consider the Presence of God

Posted by appolus on November 10, 2011

When we think of the presence of God, do we not think of that wonder that fills our being, that makes our heart glow within us? The presence that takes us up, that bends us low, that makes us weep, that makes us rejoice. That presence in which we can barely lift our heads because the glory of His majesty has supernatural weight that prostrates all living things. That presence where we can hear angels sing ” Glory unto God in the highest.” Yes brothers and sisters, all that and more. We desire this, we have our being in this. Yet, there is also a presence that fills the temple with a cloud to where the priests could not even stand because of the glory. Could not stand because of the Glory. Could not stand because the ark had found it place in the temple.  When the presence of God enters the temple, Solomon, filled with that very presence, the Spirit of God, cries out ” Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heaven above or on the earth beneath , who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants , that walk before thee with all their heart.”

He further cries out ” Behold, the heavens and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee.” This is the presence that opens up the sea, that stops the roaring Jordan, that causes the walls of Jericho to fall. This presence causes the mountains to skip and the earth to shake. O mighty sea, what ails you that you fled? And you O Jordan, why were you driven back? O proud mountains and mighty sea and you o earth upon which we stand, you trembled in the presence of your Maker. O mighty mountains, when the presence of God rends the very heavens, you will flow down in His presence. And you o nations, when the fire of His wrath burns so that the waters boil, you will tremble in the presence of Glory. When He comes, the presence of the Lord is personal and beautiful and it stills the stormy seas. Yet, it is also terrible and awe-full, magnificent and terrifying. Who is like unto thee? For all the heavens that exist cannot contain you Father, you hold it in the palm of your hand.

    Hi Frank:
This continues to be much on my own heart as well. Habakkuk Chapter Three comes to mind – a powerful passage of Scripture that speaks prophetically of what is before us — this “corporate Presence,” the coming of the Presence of the Lord in His people… as we cross our “Jordan” with the Ark before us, and enter into our inheritance. It takes your breath away to see how Habakkuk describes the coming of the Presence of the Lord in His people – “He stood, and measured the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, and the perpetual hills did bow…” There are certain “mountains” in our world that people live under the shadow of, “mountains” that have been around so long that we are sure they are here to stay – certain religions, certain religious institutions, other institutions built by man… but they are going to disintegrate to dust at the Presence of the Lord in His people.

“I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction… the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble. Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? Was Thy wrath against the sea, that Thou didst ride upon Thine horses and Thy chariots of salvation?

“…The mountains saw Thee, and they trembled… the deep lifted up his hands on high… Thou wentest forth for the salvation of Thy people, even for salvation with Thine Anointed…”

There is too much here to do justice to in a short comment like this, Frank… but after the LORD had spoken this message to Habakkuk, he said, “When I heard, my belly trembled, my lips quivered at the voice, rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble…” That’s how Habakkuk reacted to this word. He was totally undone. And, oh for us to catch this vision ourselves! Everything else turns to rottenness!

…It is a very, very difficult hour for many of God’s people, Frank, but THIS is the answer God is preparing for us! Awesome things are before us! Our Lord is preparing to come forth for the salvation of His people… and to make His Presence known in the earth — through them. Let us all be careful of distractions — even good Christian distractions — and be earnestly seeking Him in this hour.

Excellent comment as always brother. Much to think about. I will check out these Scriptures and ponder your words. This feeds my soul as they Lord has been laying this on my heart for many years now. There is always a comfort to know that there are many others out there that the Lord is speaking to on the subject of His manifest presence and the fact that we are dwelling in an age that has lost the glory of God. Jesus speaks of this very glory in John 17………….brother Frank
