No longer a heart of stone!

Posted by appolus on July 9, 2010

He is my Saviour, my Lord, my everything, and He has given me a heart that is alive!!! And so, as one who arose from the dead out of sins and corruption, as one who had been crushed and broken, what can I say about this new heart? Its life itself. Its the wellspring of all my hope and joy and love. Its the throne of my precious Saviour

NO LONGER A HEART OF STONE!

The poem below is a part of a poem I wrote shortly after being saved 20 years ago. It celebrates my passage from death to life.

My heart, my heart, it is no more
It is completely encased in steel
My God, My God, Oh help me Lord
My God, I cannot feel.

I look down in horror
No heart, no flesh , just bone
I look around in horror
My God, I’m all alone

Where is this place I thought I knew
It’s dark, it’s dimly lit
My God, My God, I’m almost at the bottom
Of the bottomless pit.

And in that moment, right where I was
My God He came to me
My son, my son, my son He cried
I have come to set you free.

Oh my God, Oh my Lord
Is it true, can I be free
Oh please dear Jesus, please dear God
Please don’t look on me

My son, my son, you are my son
And I will put you on the Rock
Be quiet now, be quiet son
Shh, do not talk

I have a Son, My only Son
He died upon a tree
He is My Son, He is your Lord
He’s the Rock that will set you free.

And so it was, and so it is
My Father took me in His Hand
Onward , ever upward
Out of the pit, into the Promised land

He set me on the Rock and I looked down
No longer a heart of steel
I could see and I could touch
I had flesh and I could feel

So come to the Rock, come to Christ
And He will set you free
If you will just open your eyes
He will let you see.

This was a living reality to me and and it changed me from the inside out and turned my life upside down. I knew very little of the Scriptures when I wrote this, it just overflowed out of such joy to know that something so fundamaental, so real to who I was, changed and I was no longer that person. When I looked at my wife I saw a person to be loved and cherised, yet prior to this new heart she was a possesion of mine. I could take my son in my arms and tell him I loved him, a sheer impossibility prior to the new heart. I so loved my Lord that I never wanted to do anything to offend Him.

Its the throne of my precious Saviour, and He reigns, not as a tyrant enforcer, not as one who has 613 rules to be kept upon pain of death, but as one who is served out of eternal love and gratitude, as one who can never be repaid for raising me from the dead, as one that I love beyond measure and the last thing, the very last thing, as brother Paul would say “God forbid,” that I would want to do is sin and grieve the heart of my Lord. This is so beyond ” the keeping of rules,” that to have it ever presented to me as that, always seems completly foriegn. Praise the Living God for His New Covenant!

Eze 36:25  Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
Eze 36:26  A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Eze 36:27  And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
Eze 36:28  And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

Brother Frank…..In the 35 years that my earthly father was a part of my life, i never once heard him say that he loved me. In the 60 years that my mother was allowed to be a part of my life, not one time in those entire 60 years did i ever hear her say “I love you”. The ironic thing about it was, i know that they did love me, they demonstrated it in many ways, it is just that there was something in thier hearts that prevented them from saying it. I followed in thier footsteps, and all my unsaved life i was unable to utter the simple words, “I love you”. Jesus changed my heart instantly one day, and i am constantly telling my wife and children that i love them now. Such important words. The world needs a heart change brother Frank.

Praise the Lord Robert for your new heart. I am sure that your family truly appreciates your words to them. Oh yes Robert, the world needs a heart change and we love and serve a God that would see all men come to Him. Thanks for your comments brother……….Frank
