What does a real Prophet look Like? We will soon find out.

Posted by appolus on March 3, 2009

I am bombarded with talk or letters about the coming shortages in our national life: bread, fuel, energy. I read between the lines from people not practiced in scaring folk. They feel that the “seven years of plenty” are over for us. The “seven years of famine” are ahead. But the greatest famine of all in this nation at this given moment is a FAMINE OF THE HEARING OF THE WORDS OF GOD (Amos 8:11).

 The Prophets are coming!

Ravenhill writes….

The prophet in his day is fully accepted of God and totally rejected by men.

“Years back, Dr. Gregory Mantle was right when he said, “No man can be fully accepted until he is totally rejected.” The prophet of the Lord is aware of both these experiences. They are his “brand name.”

The group, challenged by the prophet because they are smug and comfortably insulated from a perishing world in their warm but untested theology, is not likely to vote him “Man of the year” when he refers to them as habituates of the synagogue of Satan!

The prophet comes to set up that which is upset. His work is to call into line those who are out of line! He is unpopular because he opposes the popular in morality and spirituality. In a day of faceless politicians and voiceless preachers, there is not a more urgent national need than that we cry to God for a prophet! The function of the prophet, as Austin-Sparks once said, “has almost always been that of recovery.”

The prophet is God’s detective seeking for a lost treasure. The degree of his effectiveness is determined by his measure of unpopularity. Compromise is not known to him.
He has no price tags.
He is totally “otherworldly.”
He is unquestionably controversial and unpardonably hostile.
He marches to another drummer!
He breathes the rarefied air of inspiration.
He is a “seer” who comes to lead the blind.
He lives in the heights of God and comes into the valley with a “thus saith
the Lord.”
He shares some of the foreknowledge of God and so is aware of
impending judgment.
He lives in “splendid isolation.”
He is forthright and outright, but he claims no birthright.
His message is “repent, be reconciled to God or else…!”
His prophecies are parried.
His truth brings torment, but his voice is never void.
He is the villain of today and the hero of tomorrow.
He is excommunicated while alive and exalted when dead!
He is dishonored with epithets when breathing and honored with
epitaphs when dead.
He is a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, but few “make the grade” in his class.
He is friendless while living and famous when dead.
He is against the establishment in ministry; then he is established as a saint
by posterity.
He eats daily the bread of affliction while he ministers, but he feeds the Bread of
Life to those who listen.
He walks before men for days but has walked before God for years.
He is a scourge to the nation before he is scourged by the nation.
He announces, pronounces, and denounces!
He has a heart like a volcano and his words are as fire.
He talks to men about God.
He carries the lamp of truth amongst heretics while he is lampooned by men.
He faces God before he faces men, but he is self-effacing.
He hides with God in the secret place, but he has nothing to hide in
the marketplace.
He is naturally sensitive but supernaturally spiritual.
He has passion, purpose and pugnacity.
He is ordained of God but disdained by men.

Our national need at this hour is not that the dollar recover its strength, or that we save face over the Watergate affair, or that we find the answer to the ecology problem. We need a God-sent prophet!

Millions have been spent on evangelism in the last twenty-five years. Hundreds of gospel messages streak through the air over the nation every day. Crusades have been held; healing meetings have made a vital contribution. “Come-outers” have “come out” and settled, too, without a nation-shaking revival. Organizers we have. Skilled preachers abound. Multi-million dollar Christian organizations straddle the nation. BUT where, oh where, is the prophet? Where are the incandescent men fresh from the holy place? Where is the Moses to plead in fasting before the holiness of the Lord for our moldy morality, our political perfidy, and sour and sick spirituality?

GOD’S MEN ARE IN HIDING UNTIL THE DAY OF THEIR SHOWING FORTH. They will come. The prophet is violated during his ministry, but he is vindicated by history.

There is a terrible vacuum in evangelical Christianity today. The missing person in our ranks is the prophet. The man with a terrible earnestness. The man totally otherworldly. The man rejected by other men, even other good men, because they consider him too austere, too severely committed, too negative and unsociable.

Let him be as plain as John the Baptist.
Let him for a season be a voice crying in the wilderness of modern theology and
stagnant “churchianity.”
Let him be as selfless as Paul the apostle.
Let him, too, say and live, “This ONE thing I do.”
Let him reject ecclesiastical favors.
Let him be self-abasing, nonself-seeking, nonself-projecting, nonself- righteous,
nonself-glorying, nonself-promoting.
Let him say nothing that will draw men to himself but only that which will move
men to God.
Let him come daily from the throne room of a holy God, the place where he has
received the order of the day.
Let him, under God, unstop the ears of the millions who are deaf through the
clatter of shekels milked from this hour of material mesmerism.
Let him cry with a voice this century has not heard because he has seen a vision
no man in this century has seen. God send us this Moses to lead us from the
wilderness of crass materialism, where the rattlesnakes of lust bite us and where
enlightened men, totally blind spiritually, lead us to an ever-nearing Armageddon.

God have mercy! Send us PROPHETS!”

The prophets are coming brothers and sisters, we wont like it when the Lord releases them to speak, yet to those who will harken to the voice of the Lord when He speaks will experienc refreshing. This drought, this famine will come to pass and as the waters cascade down through the dry and parched valleys, it will wash away all the structures that it finds and once again the valley will be a place of green pastures, God’s people will know comfort and will feast on the presence of God. Another Azuza street to replace what we Pentecostals built. We have become what we replaced. Every now and again the temple is destroyed, and God’s people find out all over again what is really important, not the temple, God forbid, not the Temple, it is what the temple houses that is the treasure.

  1. I live in the Outer Banks area of North carolina. In 2002,I think in March, the Holy Spirit interrepted my while I was praying and said “What you need in this area is a Holy visitation , Nothing less will do!” Later on He said “This whole nation needs a Holy visitation, nothing less will do!”

Two prophets are coming – They are Christians…present day Christians. Called, saved, and repented sinners (filled with a special anoiting agreed). It is the calling that God Himself has placed on these that sets them apart. If you were to ask them, they would tell you that they are nothing special at all, but with deepest humility tell how greatful they are that the Lord has saved them, and washed them, and that their names are written down in heaven, and anyone seeing them would think they are nothing special at all…except maybe those who can see into the Spirit may suspect.

What does it mean to be a prophet? Is it someone who is of exalted reputation? Is it a high office of esteem that people would say oh high and exalted one? One of stature and of pride? Is it one who sticks his chest out and says I am a prophet of God and am above others in anointing and authority?

If someone is a prophet, I would think that would be the last thing that they would do, lest they fall in the same condemnation as satan, lest they are overthrown by God…these would know the judgement of God concerning this, and would therefore remain small in their own eyes at all times.

To me a prophet of God is a very lowly position…one of servantude and self denial. A position of being absolutely hated at times for the Word of God, and a burden to be borne…but a burden that is borne gladly with the joy and communion of the Holy Spirit; a person with humility of spirit, meekness, unpretentiousness and modesty; one with whom the Pure and Holy Word of God burns inside with indescribable and unquentiable fire and zeal; one who loves and extols the God of heaven beyond all else in this life.

…But even the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth needs a saviour, for they are not with out sin…but are repented sinners themselves, clothed with the righteousness of Jesus. Would they not say therefore, “here I am, with my feet firmly planted upon the Rock of my salvation?”
…are not their spirits melted within them, by the Fire of God, as wax before the Flame?

Who ever these two prophets are, may God truly and richly bless them for the work and suffering they are about to do. May the Holy Spirit of God go with them in power! Amen.

I think the mark of a true prophet is deep humility, and he will not draw attention or a light to himself and proclaim himself to be so. He will take on the role of a servant, and in the case of these two witnesses, have a certain mandate to fulfill. But once they begin their ministry, people will know without a doubt who they are.

I see a human side to them…theirs is a road of hardship and self denial, (but they have a love and zeal for God) and in the end of their ministry, they loved not their life unto death…they are mercilessly slaughtered/killed…but God raises them up.

Through one’s fears, one is made strong, for when we are weak, God within us is strong…like Elijah feared Jezebel but overcame his fear. Another thing…will they know they are called before, or not until the hour of trial?

They will decry antichrist, who is a man (the son of perdition), for 3-1/2 years…and at the end of their Christian testimony, get to die for the testimony of Jesus. During the time of their tenure as the two witnesses, God will give them a special anointing for the purpose of God’s word and His judgement on the world, testimony in the face of satanic adversity, preaching the Gospel – hellfire preaching, and at the end of it satan’s beast, the antichrist will overcome them and mercilessly kill them.

The world absolutely hates them because of their testimony (this must be clearly understood), and when they are killed, the world will rejoice over them and give each other gifts like on Christmas…a big party and celebrations worldwide. Their bodies will lay on the streets of Jerusalem as an open show to the world for 3-1/2 days of the anitchrist’s triumph…
and he will complete his blaspheme and shake his fist at Jehovah God and at the Lamb, and he rejoices over the deaths of these two witnesses with greedy and evil hatred…rejoice over their deaths he will.

But on the third day God will call to them, and raise them up from the dead…and then…look and see… The fierceness of God will come up before Him, for his anger has been kindled and shall not be quenched…and look and behold…the greatest battle of all time, of all eternity is about to take place,

Then that which is written by the prophet Enoch will come to pass:

And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones
    To execute judgement upon all,
And to destroy all the ungodly:
    And to convict all flesh
Of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed,
And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.

…in life these two witnesses are most humble and meek among men and are of no exalted reputation, but flee this. And they probably suffered persecution in their life because of their quiet and meek spirit, and because the hand of God has always been with them from birth, so they have always had satanic adversity. They also have ministering spirits sent forth to minister to them from birth (as do all the elect), and satan sees this and persecutes them from birth when he can. Think of Moses and what was written about him, was he not the most humble and meek of all men and was small in his own eyes? Numbers 12:3 (King James Version)
3(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)

Suffice it to say, whoever they are, they will be revealed at the appointed time and not before. So no one can say “I am he” because they would not do that, they will just go about their work in the time appointed, with NO FANFARE, …and they will be hated by the nations, not loved…their praise comes from God alone who has called them.

Amen brother. It is interesting that the greatest prophet of all, John The Baptist, only eve said about himself that he was one crying in the wilderness. Here is a good rule of thumb, those who proclaim themselves to be prophets, are almost alway not. To tell someone that you are a prophet goes against the humility of the office………Frank

Yes, the False Apostles and Prophets today come in different flavors. The Prophets of Prosperity, Dominionism, False Signs and Wonders and Social Transformation. Beware of the men that gather people unto themselves or other men and don’t direct you to the Lord. Have you ever noticed that these men are ever increasing and never decreasing?

    Appreciate your posts Apollus.

  8. Were are the true prophets Today? Many so called Prophets in Church today are money hungry preachers. We see them on T.V. They don’t call the Church to repent. The real prophets of Yhwh are into having fame, money or power over people. The Prophet will not be brought or sold. He or She belongs to Yhwh alone. I been a prophet from birth and grew-up in this ministry. Growing up had many pains and lessons. I am still learning today.

  9. The true prophets of God are here, many will not know it. Reason being like the other brother said they need not to bring show to themselves. These are people that God has preordained before the foundations of the earth, to become His mouth piece to the world that He created. And yes they are truly, meek and humble, yet truth will come out of their mouth with boldness, being 100percent obedient to God, while rejecting the fear of man. Many are called but few are chosen. Just because one has been called to be a prophet does not mean he is one. What I mean is their is a process of purifying that must come into action by God himself. The calling of a prophet is not one in which is learned in bible school( bible schools are needed), but it is learned on the backside of a mountain. It is that place where God seperates you, and the testing of your faith starts. You must be “PROVEN BY GOD”. Their is a reason that in order to become a navy seal you must be proven to go through two weeks of hellish training. As with any job, their is always a level of training that must be completed. Never attempt to walk into your calling, untill the ONE whom has called you has put you their. As Paul said, He counts us faithful putting us in the ministry. He is the one who puts us their not us. It is also true, that those that call them selves prophet publicly draw attention to themselves, and not God. God only knows that the church has been drawing men after themselves, and not God for way to long. Do not repeat the mistake of the last generation. In proverbs it talks about ones gifting opening a door for them. If you truly are a prophet, keep your mouth shut about it, and spiritual people will know. Their will be a time for your gifting to manifest, when God has seen fit to it. Untill then be glad that you are known by the GOD that loves you with an everlasting love. No true man or woman of God wants the spotlight, they hate it, because in the church people tend to worship other people. God will change all of this, I believe as His Glory increases on the earth. Remember that no flesh can glory in His sight. The only way that we will be able to stand in His glory, while here on this earth is when our carnal flesh has been destroyed in the furnace of affliction. Their will be two groups of people those that are sent from God and those that are sent by themselves. It is your job to know the difference. Exercise your spiritual senses, learning to know the difference between what is of God, and what is not of God. Do not do this with the critical eye. When you walk with God, He is going to show you what is of Him, and what is not. His Spirit is going to guide you into all truth. A prophet will have spent so much time in His presence, that the very love of God will be engraved in their heart. The true prophet will also know that only by the grace of God, they are who they are, because God chose them for that office. A true prophet will be one of much intercession, and will weep over the sin of their country. A true prophet will walk in a greater amount of spiritual authority, than others. Love humility and authority will be their trademarks. A false prophet will always leave you feeling condemned, they will make you feel as though even God does not even accept you. A true prophet will open the doorway leading you into the presence of God. Thank you Timothy P.

Hi, very well said about the true prophets. God is the center of the prophet’s life. No denomination and earthly structure can keep the prophet for the Kingdom of God that he/she knows is boundless. A prophet obeys the Spirit of God more than the voice of men, thus, he/she almost always run in opposition to the popular voice in every situation.

    Blessings,

Amen Cynthia, in fact I would say that it is the mark of the Prophet. One must beware when all men speak well of us. Jesus was rejected and so too will His followers suffer rejection………………bro Frank

  16. Amen, it must leave the question deep in the center of our beings. “Do all me speak well of me?” Jesus said that I did not come to bring peace but a sword, and yet He is still the Prince of Peace. The flesh will always recieve the things of this world, while rejecting the things of Heaven. If the bulk of the world recieves us, is it because we are friends of the world? If this is the case we are the enemies of God. We are tottaly incapable of serving both God and satan, we will love one and hate the other. Which one do you love???

Yest Timothy, it makes me think of this Scripture……………

      Luk 14:23-35
      (23) And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.
      (24) For I say to you that none of these men who were invited shall taste of my supper.
      (25) And great crowds went with Him. And He turned and said to them,
      (26) If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
      (27) And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me, he cannot be My disciple.
      (28) For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he may have enough to finish it;
      (29) lest perhaps, after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish, all those seeing begin to mock him,
      (30) saying, This man began to build and was not able to finish.
      (31) Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not first sit down and consult whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
      (32) Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.
      (33) So then, everyone of you who does not forsake all his possessions, he cannot be My disciple.
      (34) Salt is good, but if the salt has become tasteless, with what shall it be seasoned?
      (35) It is not fit for the land, nor for manure, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
